About

THE IKE REILLY ASSASSINATION IN CONCERT:

The Ike Reilly Assassination use clever songcraft, high-energy delivery, and catchy hooks to bring their rousing pop-punk anthems to life in concert. Lead singer and guitarist Ike Reilly keeps the songs firmly planted in the protest punk tradition with witty lyrics and exclamatory vocals. His backing band The Assassination help him explore ambitious musical territory, breaking into marching rhythms, bluesy folk jams, or U2-style guitar atmospherics at a moment’s notice. With Born on Fire -- their first album in six years -- due out in 2015, The Ike Reilly Assassination is making select appearances across the US to bring their passionate and charismatic live show to ticket buyers.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Michael “Ike” Reilly was born on a naval station in the Great Lakes region and grew up in nearby Libertyville, IL. Reilly began writing music while in college, but was often preoccupied by making ends meet with a variety of jobs including grave digger and hotel doorman. He finally had the chance to record his original material after he helped open Diamond City Recording studio in 1997. His debut album Salesmen and Racists was released in 2001 and immediately began generating positive buzz, which led him to assemble The Ike Reilly Assassination. The group made their recording debuted in 2004 with the universally praised album Sparkle in the Finish. Reilly and company wound up releasing five more albums that decade, ending with 2009’s Hard Luck Stories. The Ike Reilly Assassination returned in 2015 with the eagerly album anticipated Born on Fire, an ambitious take on pop-punk that pleased longtime fans while also making new ones.

    A fun time.

by Rich on 3/17/24High Noon Saloon - Madison

I had a couple of Ike’s CDs for over a decade and when I saw he was playing High Noon Saloon, I bought tickets. We had a great time. Ike was hanging out chatting before the show and I got a few autographs and photos. He put on an energetic performance and we were not disappointed.

    Unexpected Joy

    by Kent Kearney on 2/11/22

I stepped inside a neighborhood bar on the way to Mark Knopfler's show at Chicago Theater to get primed in time. I waltzed to the jukebox and fed the hole a twenty. The bartenders like who the f is this cat? I was confident and on a mission. I was about to play Link Wray when IKE REILLY come on jamning HIP HOP THIGHS. Then I realized that it wouldn't be ethical to mess with a man's rotation. So I sat my Mantorvillian ass down and ordered a Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and asked the lady to get my neighbor's a drink too. He proceeded to tell me that it'd be ok to play your music. I fell a back and was like no way...who is Ike Reilly? I thought I had a grasp on damn good music. What a way to get the party started with mutual respect. I waited for IKE to finish JOHN CASH HAS BLOWN MY MIND and played JUKE BOX MAMA and my neighbor's continued to let me in on this beautiful gem. HOW IS HE NOT KNOWN ? I looked him up on Premium You Tube Music and filled a playlist. BEEN DIGGIN HIS GROOVE EVER SINCE. ALWAYS COUPLED WITH LINK WRAY. THANKS CHICAGO YOU MADE MY NIGHT CUZ IT JUST KEPT GETTING BETTER LIKE A MULTIPLE GAZM.

Ike Reilly is the real deal

by TJR1 on 11/23/15Mercury Lounge - New York

Another amazing show by Ike and band, covering both his best new songs and several from his earliest release. If you don't know Ike, I think the "Springsteen meets the Replacements" comparison I heard once is apt--though his new stuff is better than anything Bruce has done in decades and he has better hooks than the Replacements ever had. Just unbelievable that this guy is not playing bigger venues.Highly recommended.

    Ike Reilly was solid rocker

by pingstar on 7/21/15Mercury Lounge - New York

Ike Reilly had a great presence on the stage and really did well interacting with the crowd. It was a bit disappointing that he didn't do any encore, but definitely a solid show. I found the vocals were drowned out a bit by the other instruments some times as well.

Ike Reilly at the Mercury Lounge

by HomegrownSundayRamble on 7/20/15Mercury Lounge - New York

So Dr. Dan Dubelman joined me last night at the Mercury Lounge for what was the second of a two night stand by Ike Reilly and the Assassination and they did not disappoint. Lyrically driven rock and roll at it's best. A super tight 5 piece band where the keyboard player doubled as third guitar. Ike is still relatively unknown as the Merc was only about two thirds full, which makes him one of the best kept secrets in music. But I suspect with the release of the new record "Hard Luck Stories" and this tour which is getting great write ups in every town they hit, that is about to change. If you're in New York you missed your chance this go around, but if you have another opportunity to see this band, you should jump on it.
