Ice Breaker was GREAT!!!
Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - Portland
Saw the first NCAA hockey game of the season between North Dakota and Lake Erie. Right on the ice in the corner. Never sat that close before - FANTASTIC! Up close and personal, lots of action = great time. You can really see how fast the game is when sitting right behind the glass.

GREAT HOCKEY!

This was a great hockey event. Hope it happens every year - such a good way to see the University of Maine Black Bears and three other good hockey programs. Bring it back again!

College Hockey's finest
Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - Portland
Nice to see the College Hockey people awarding Portland, Maine with the "Ice Breaker" tourney. I thought it went well overall. In the future I would like to see Portland and the southern Maine area promote the event or a similar one a little more. I liked the two day pass for all four games that worked out well.

Unforgettable experience
Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - Portland
Two great games, highlighted by the UND/UMaine game to cap off the evening. Far and away one of the most exciting hockey games I've ever seen! So glad that I went!

exciting icebreaker tourney
Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - Portland
I thought the Ice Breaker Tourney held in Portland Maine this past weekend was excellent and exceeded expectations . The teams were all good and they played at a high level considering that it was opening weekend for them . Being a UMaine fan I was very pleased with their play against two skilled , talented opponents . You'd almost think that the Maine vs. Michigan St. and Maine vs. North Dakota games were scripted with both games ending in ties and UMaine eventually winning both shootouts . No body left the building and without a doubt people got their money worth of college hockey last weekend . Even the weather was favorable for the block party put on by Gorham Savings Bank across the street on Saturday afternoon . Considering future Ice Breaker Tourneys' I think it 's important to hold the tourney at a venue close to a school with a good fan base . Portland was a good choice because there are a lot of UMaine alumni in Southern Maine as well as many hockey fans in this area . I think Gorham Savings Bank and UMaine should be happy with the event all things considered . I hope they will host this event sometime in the near future . I would definitely attend this tourney again . I hope Portland will get serious consideration for and be selected to host a NCAA regional tournament .

Division 1 Hockey
Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - Portland
I am a very devoted college hockey fan, therefore my expectations for the event were high. The Friday night start time at 4;30pm had competition with people still getting out of work and Friday night high school football which partially explained low fan turnout in the tourney's early going. By 8pm, the crowd was at 5000 for the main event. Saturday the crowd pattern was the same but I can only guess why again the low first game turnout. The arena staff was amazing friendly and helpful...proven by them finding and saving my lost jacket from Friday night to be hand delivered to me Saturday night. Maine"s Coach Red Gendron, the primary mover and shaker for the Ice Breaker to happen in Portland, mingled freely with the crowd on both nights prior to his own contest...he loved the little kids. these college hockey players more than did their part to present quality hockey at such an early time in the season. I was surprised at the good number of fans who made the travel to follow the three invited visitors. My only drawback, so small though, was the lack of quality programs with team info stats. Biggest surprise of the event was the University Maine team itself...they played both games at 110% and showcased the possibility of two high quality goalies. The transformation of way too many penalities on Friday night to only three on Saturday was a show of great discipline. My thanks to all for a great two nights of enjoyment.

UMaine v N. Dakota
Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - Portland
Worst seats imaginable. Don't ever ever get seats in the 3rd row in section V. We were right behind the players bench and the announcer booth and could not see Anything!! Players stayed standing throughout the game and they are essentially on the same level as our row. Fortunately it was not a sell out and everyone in row 3 moved to other seats. The arena has absolutely no business selling seats in this area for hockey games.

people were very nice, seats have a great view for hockey. Food was above rink food and the beer was cold.
