    As good as in NY

by Wonposet on 2/20/11Studio Two Riffe Center - Columbus

I saw I am My Own Wife when it was a limited run at Playwright's Horizon in NYC and was amazed at Jefferson Mays' performance. Who would have thought that a man who was an unknown actor wearing a black dress and pearls would hold an audience spellbound for two hours? I saw the show three more times when it moved to the Lyceum and didn't expect much in Columbus. How wrong I was! Studio Two was the perfect setting to see Christopher Marlowe Roche so perfectly perform thirty-some roles. I am My Own Wife was perfect for Columbus. This production would have been great anywhere. I hope Steven Anderson brings us many more like it.

I Am My Own Wife a real tour de force

by RobinBrenneman on 2/15/11Studio Two Riffe Center - Columbus

My husband and I very much enjoyed CATCO's production of I Am My Own Wife. Christopher Marlowe Roche gave a stellar performance. His ability to shift seamlessly from one character to the next was amazing. His nuanced portrayal of Charlotte gave us the feeling that we truly knew her by the end of the performance. Stephanie Gerckens' set provided a wonderful background for the play and contributed to our knowledge of Charlotte and the life she led. We enjoyed looking at all the objects that were displayed on the set. We love attending CATCO productions because we can be assured of consistently high quality and exposure to new and challenging works.

This was an excellent production. The actor and director did an excellent job. I would like to see the actor and director in future productions.

To see it is to believe it!

by Chamisa on 2/3/10Signature Theatre - Arlington

Andrew Long slips seamlessly in and out of 35 characters in this amazing one-man show. His Charlotte Von Mahlsdorf completely beguiles the playwright Doug Wright with her recollections, and then he is sucker punched. What to do? Write this Puliter prizewinning play!

I Am My Own Wife review

by RickMa on 1/25/10Signature Theatre - Arlington

Andrew Long is incredible as Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a German transvestite who managed to survive both Nazi rule and the repressive East German Communist regime. During the play he becomes Charlotte as well as 30 or 40 other characters, capturing their individual personalities and the numerous dialects and languages of each. How can anyone learn so many lines and get the timing and execution so perfect???

Andrew Long knocks it out of the park!

    by Mardybum86 on 1/24/10Signature Theatre - Arlington

Signature chose the right man for a one-man play. Theatre-goers who are familiar with his noble/heroic, and even comedic roles at the Shakespeare Theatre and other turns at other area theatres will be impressed, but not surprised, at the range he brings to this performance. The theatre itself is a delight, with excellent audience services, and the surrounding neighborhood makes the trip to Shirlington/Arlington worthwhile

I had not seen this play before. Excellant one man show - He plays 35 different characters! An interesting and believable story that even at the end leaves some unanswered questions.

    Long is a Chameleon !!

by TheatreMum on 1/19/10Signature Theatre - Arlington

This play had so many unexpected aspects. I was astonished at how many characters were performed by Andrew Long. He is a theatrical chameleon. He performed so many roles, whether delicate or harsh, with skill and aplomb. He was superb. Mr. Paul's direction was precise and insistent, admirable. Set design was perfect also, reflecting the preciousness of the museum items, and the sadness of their being boxed up as if to be shipped.

Outstanding performance for a sophisticated audience. Andrew Long portrays a challenging cast of characters with dexterity and aplomb, and without missing a beat. Truly remarkable and entertaining!
