About

Hugh Laurie is nothing if not multitalented. Known for his acting work on the shows Blackadder, Jeeves and Wooster, and House, Hugh Laurie is also a skilled writer, director, comedian,  and musician. Laurie began studying piano at the age of six and later took up a range of instruments, including guitar, piano, drums, saxophone, and harmonica. He has shown off his musical abilities during his acting career, particularly on shows such as A Bit of Fry & Laurie and House, as well as during his hosting stint on Saturday Night Live in 2005.
He plays keyboard and sings vocals for Band From TV, a charity-driven rock group based in Los Angeles. He also collaborated with Meat Loaf after the artist appeared with him in an episode of House. After this appearance, Laurie played the piano as a guest artist on Meat Loaf's Hang Cool Teddy Bear album of 2010. He also performed and co-wrote the blues comedy song “Sperm Test in the Morning” for Maybe Baby. While starring in House, Laurie has also weaved in several musical storylines and played a range of classic instruments, including Les Paul and Gibson Flying V guitars. His character also owns a Hammond B-3 organ and plays the introduction to Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum in one episode. Laurie also plays a doctor in Kate Bush's video for the song “Experiment IV.”
Laurie has also recorded his own musical collection and made an album for Warner Bros Records in 2011 called Let Them Talk, which was released in Germany and France, featuring a range of collaborations with artists that included Dr. John, Tom Jones and Irma Thomas. That same year, Laurie closed the Cheltenham Jazz Festival with a jazz quintet to great applause and good reviews. He also talked about his love for jazz and the music of New Orleans in the ITV documentary, Perspectives. He released a second studio album, Didn't It Rain, in 2013. He has released three singles to date: You Don't Know My Mind in 2011, and Winin' Boy Blues and Wild Honey in 2013.

Hugh "Berty" Laurie is a pleasing tenor .

by hollyberry007 on 7/10/14The Fillmore - San Francisco

Oh my goodness gosh by golly gee ! We all had a blast at this show .Every single member of the Copper Bottom Band is a star in their own right . Togather they create never a dull moment . It was a pleasure to enjoy musicians who rely on their musicianship rather than exscuciating volume to ellicit a response from the audience ( not that I don't also enjoy hellyeah ) . There was nothing lacking from this show . We would all go see Hugh Laurie and The Copper Bottom Band again , in a heartbeat ( especially if Hugh would sing MINNIE THE MOOCHER ) .

Hugh Laurie is a multi-talented artist, who has great stage control, and reacts well to the audience, involves them in his act. A very good back up band, and singers. We have seen Hugh Laurie twice now, is improving as an artist, excellent entertainer!!

Possibly the best concert I've ever been to

by Anonymous on 6/12/14Balboa Theatre - San Diego

This was such a great show in every possible way. Not only is Hugh Laurie hilarious, but he is an extremely talented musician. He was also very interactive with the audience which was nice. The Copper Bottom Band is fantastic, particularly the trombonist. They had such a unique chemistry that made the music that much more powerful.

Fantastic, unbelievable show! Hugh Laurie, Jean McClain, Gaby Moreno and the Copper Bottom Band were even better than their CD's. We expected good; they were top notch.

It mixed all different genres of music and talent and brought an audience of all ages and ethnicities to their feet dancing and cheering and wanting more. Hugh Laurie is remarkable!!!

by Pyersqr on 6/5/14Fox Performing Arts Center - Riverside

I knew Hugh Laurie was musical from his tv series, but I had no idea just how gifted he actually is. He is so amazing on every instrument he plays, and he sings!! I had no idea. Also, he is so humorous and personable. In addition, every member of his band is multi-talented, playing at least one instrument as well as singing fantastically well. And finally, the style of music played was so amazing. Bless them for keeping this early 20th century jazz and blues alive for all of us that love it so much!
