    great line up

by Red1492 on 2/27/12Apollo Theater - New York

It was great seeing so many good musicians together in such a small venue. It appeared that the amps were not even miked up so it gave it a small, live sound as opposed to the big concert sound you are used to hearing in the big areans

    Clapton/Richards/Guy/Gibbons/Trucks/Haynes!

by OzNied on 2/27/12Apollo Theater - New York

First the negative: The crowd was weak. Blues legends at the Apollo should have brought the house down, but it was more like a politely enjoying atmosphere, which was disappointing. Even Buddy Guy's disappointment was apparent. He tried hard to get the crowd to take off with him, but nobody wanted to make a sound until after a song ended. The positive: Uhh...when the house band is made up of Steve Jordan, Danny Kortchmar, Willie Weeks, and other accomplished performers, you know the show is going to be great. Some of the best guitarists ever were on display in their natural setting: stripped-down, masterful, collaborative blues.

    Awe-inspiring

by Princicrib on 2/27/12Apollo Theater - New York

The Howlin' For Hubert benefit concert for the Jazz Foundation of America was incredible. My husband and I felt privileged to be in attendance and will remember it as one of life's great experiences. Thank you to all involved. We left the Apollo walking on air.

    Once in a Lifetime concert

by SandyJoePA on 2/26/12Apollo Theater - New York

Where else would you see nearly all the past and present blues greats but the Apollo - and to benefit such a wonderful cause. Eric Clapton (multiple songs), Buddy Guy, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, Shemekie Copeland, and many others - even Keith Richards (looking a little worse for wear). An incredible evening.

    Whoa!

by BigPackage75 on 2/26/12Apollo Theater - New York

Lots of love for Hubert at The Apollo. Just about the finest assembly of blues talent you could hope for in 2012 was on that stage. Clapton, Buddy, Cotton, Derek, Warren, Billy Gibbons, Keef.....Jeezus this was a spectacular show. And an amazing backing band including Willie Weeks on bass and BOTH Steve Jordan AND Jim Keltner on drums. Sail on Hubert!

    Smokestack Lightning!

by Strawberrylion on 2/26/12Apollo Theater - New York

I suppose it didn't go ALL NIGHT LONG, but it went past midnight and, since the show started at 8pm sharp, this was an overindulgent treat for blues and rock fans alike. A who's who of the blues played this incredible show intended to be an 80th birthday bash for legendary Howlin' Wolf guitarist Hubert Sumlin, but changed to a tribute when Sumlin died in December 2011. As the event title indicates, this was a BENEFIT show, so the prices were STEEP (my seat was $500), but the money went to a good cause, to help musicians who, for a variety of reasons, have fallen on hard times. Hubert himself benefitted from this organization. Although emotionally charged, the evening never dipped below celebration of the blues and the life and humanity of Hubert Sumlin. One of the best shows I've attended in my 25 years of concert going.

    Awesome array of talent

by Roger007 on 2/26/12Apollo Theater - New York

From begginning to end a fitting tribute to a "true" bluesman Hubert Sumlin. He would have enjoyed the show! From my lifelong favorite Eric Clapton who has brought Huberts blues to the "world" to Shemeka Copeland wailing in synch with Buddy Guys licks truely a gret show!!
