Being quite a devout fan of NIN for quite sometime(I am old here..), I was on the fence for awhile about Reznor's project with his wife, Mariqueen Maandig Reznor(also formerly of West Indian Girl). I liked the RP, but wasn't really sold. I've always been rather picky when it comes to female vocalists, so I usually stay within my comfort zone(a la Siouxsie, Grimes, Austra, etc...)
When "Welcome Oblivion" was first played for me by a good friend, I was FLOORED. It wasn't until I saw live footage from Coachella, that I knew I needed to see HTDA for myself and really formulate my own opinion. I guess I am a self proclaimed musical snob. There.
The show was phenomenal. Mariqueen's voice sounds 10 times better then on recordings(usually, it's the opposite these days), and Trent still rocks out like he's onstage with NIN, even though he's a bit Abercrombie these days. Watching the two of them was quite a sight, as there is no doubt that they have a undeniable chemistry. The other musicians were of course on point and flawless in their musical execution, and the highlight of the show for me was dancing my butt off to "BBB"(big black boots), which is just Infectious and I credibly reminiscent of mid 90's NIN in sound for sure.
Amazing show all and all, and I of course would see them again.
