About

HOT TUNA IN CONCERT:

Blues rockers Hot Tuna may have come into being incidentally, but it's no accident that they continue to sell out tours year after year. Formed as a side project by members of Jefferson Airplane while frontwoman Grace Slick was recovering from throat surgery, the band quickly attained an identity of its own, outlasting its forebear and going on to achieve considerable success. The band has always been a live act first and foremost -- they've released more live albums than studio albums -- and they'll continue to bring down the house on their upcoming tour as they treat fans to classics like "Hesitation Blues" and "Hit Single #1."

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

At the height of Jefferson Airplane's success in the late '60s, the band took a break from touring as lead singer Grace Slick recovered from vocal cord surgery. Eager to continue playing during the hiatus, several  of the band's members began performing  as Hot Tuna, covering blues classics alongside Jefferson Airplane favorites. Eventually achieving its own identity with original material, Hot Tuna continued to be a powerful live force as the band that spawned it waned. Their self-titled 1970 debut, a live recording of a show played in Berkeley, set the tone for a catalog dominated by live albums. Continuing to perform today with original members Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen, Hot Tuna has fans eagerly awaiting their upcoming tour dates.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Hot Tuna rocked the house... It was a non-stop banquet of electric blues and rock played with skill, generosity, and enthusiasm. The crowd was ecstatic, and I think the band was even happier."

"These men haven't lost a step, or a beat. Loved the songs from the album Burgers."

"For a group of older gents, these men really crank! Professional and passionate about their music, they filled the room with great sound and spirit!"

Still great, but venue was oversold

by Jen R. on 12/5/23The Fillmore - San Francisco

Musically, the whole band was great. Jack and Jorma still have such a strong connection to each other onstage. It was fun to have a horn player add another dimension to the band. I love the Fillmore as a venue, however, the show was so oversold, the line outside wrapped around the block and it was a long, cold wait to get to the front door. Once in, it was so crowded, it was hard to see the performance. I'm a small person, and there were so many bodies blocking every view. I felt squished inside a tuna can! (Yes, pun intended)

Good show Love Fillmore (except the beer price)

by Big Tuna on 12/5/23The Fillmore - San Francisco

Show was good, but for the last electric version I would’ve preferred a more traditional Hot Tuna to etch into my brain. I’m gonna miss them!

    Hot tuna rocks

by Burlingamer on 12/4/23The Fillmore - San Francisco

I was greeted by three San Francisco, police officers, and a host of Fillmore security. It seemed like a bit overkill for a hot tuna show. The venue was very crowded. I attempted to stand in front of a staircase, and was asked to leave by Fillmore security. it seemed to be OK for others, as when I came back to the restroom nearby that is what I saw. Jorma and Jack and associates we’re great playing a variety of songs that I remember.

    generally good

by steve on 12/4/23The Fillmore - San Francisco

The show was great. Seeing Hot Tuna for maybe the last time is an experience I won't forget. But the wait to get in the Filmore was longer than I've ever experienced in my many decades of going to shows there. We were about a half hour late for the show. I sure hope this never happens again!

    terrible sound I walked out

by KT on 12/4/23The Fillmore - San Francisco

I have seen Hot Tuna MANY times. The sound mixing was terrible. So much distortion! There was an overwhelming amplitude of the trumpet/horn which hurt my ears. Jorma's voice was completely muffled and we could not hear a word he said, either while speaking to the audience or singing. I am so disappointed because this is the last electric tour for this band. We walked out and spoke to many others outside who had left as well.

    Faster than light

by Johnnyplanet on 12/4/23The Fillmore - San Francisco

This hot tuna experience is beyond any kind of normal music. They are probably trans dimensional entities who are healing, the planet with sound vibrations… Things are not, as they seem… One is brought along on a journey to gain immortality… They will change their minds and continue to play electric for sure… There is no other band anything like hot tuna… And these guys are really great. You can tell that they love us back just as much as we love them… I definitely want to be able to see electric hot tuna at the Fillmore, 100 years from now…

    Electric Hot Tuna

by Martos on 12/4/23The Fillmore - San Francisco

My first time at the Fillmore and the boys made it even more magical. They were on fire. The additions of Larry, Theresa and Steve added to the evenings greatness.

A fabulous show in a wonderful venue.

by Turbostar on 12/4/23The Fillmore - San Francisco

Unlike the earlier Phil Lesh show at the Fillmore we got into the venue thru security in ten minutes after door opened as opposed to over an hour later for Phil Lesh show.In addition for this show which was sold out like the Phil Lesh show which was definitely oversold this show had reasonable space on most of the floor and dancing room in the back of auditorium.

    BITTERSWEET CONCERT

by LOLS on 12/4/23The Fillmore - San Francisco

The concert was great! Unbelievable how well they sound, just sad they're not going to perform electric on tour anymore. But they aren't retiring, so very glad for that!
