    Hope Sandoval was AMAZING!!! :D

by lskittles79 on 11/8/09Mayan Theater - Los Angeles

I've loved her music for the past 15yrs. Definitely takes me back to my highschool memories and boy, was I living her lyrics at the time. *What can I say, Im a hopeless romantic. ;) The last time I saw HOPE was in her 2002 tour, so I was extremely excited about her new album/tour! Hope Sandoval's melancholy voice is amazing...I adore her!!! Words can't describe the excitement I had for that moment.

    Awesome

Great show. There was a soft red light on Hope for this concert so it was not as dark as the other shows. Hauntingly beautiful voice, great crowd.

Hope's voice was lovely and the guys behind her were really psychedelic, but there was no frontwoman, no presence, no connection to the audience. Hope would rather hide in the dark and pretend you weren't there than take a chance, open her eyes and connect with her fans. It was strange because everyone could feel it. I was bored and disappointed.

    dont gaze at my shoes...

by guppie on 10/23/09Mayan Theater - Los Angeles

I thought the show was awsome! I loved the screen that was behind the band, it was playing some trippy stuff from maybe the 20's or somthing. The mayan was a great place for a show like this too. Hope Sandoval was so beutiful and of course her voice sounded amazing. The only thing I was kinda bummed about was they didnt play any mazzy star songs!

Hope Sandoval is amazing! Would recommend seeing her- so talented. Would be great to have a little more lighting on stage. Dirt Blue Gene was ok to open but they could use to add a singer for their own material as well.

    Voice of an angel

by NoGaga on 10/23/09Mayan Theater - Los Angeles

The music was dreamy. Being at this concert was like drifting in a blissful dream with the voice of an angel guiding you. Hope's voice is crystal clear and entrancing. The music was so hypnotic that you can't help but remain captivated. In the first few songs, the music staff hadn't gotten the sound right yet (i.e. her microphone was not loud enough) but by the 3rd or 4th song, she sounds crystal clear.

Haven't been to a concert in about a year and I usually go to bigger venues so my review may not be accurate. First off, I love Hope Sandoval and have been listening to her since 1998. She did an amazing vocal performance. I'm not sure if something was going on before she went on because it took a looong time for her to come on stage. I drove from about 2 hours away so it was a late night! But, she rocked and I had a great time. The Mayan in pretty cool too and the parking was convenient and cheap.

    Hope from Mazzy Star

by KitKat2 on 10/23/09Mayan Theater - Los Angeles

Great show. Glad I went. Venue was a bit crowded with no good seating when I got there. Walked around and space opened up with time. Music was lovely, venue was nice, sound quality was good, parking and drinks were too expensive. I would go back to the Mayan, though, and I'd see Hope again. Beautiful music for the end of a long day.
