Home Free on Tour

Though Home Free are primarily considered a country group, the quintet's concerts are quite a bit more. First and foremost, they're a vocal act in the a cappella tradition, which means they know how to make five voices sound like a full band even without any instruments on the stage. They pull off this impressive achievement by incorporating lush harmonies, beatboxing and vocal counterpoint that harkens back to doo-wop and barbershop. While recent years have found Home Free moving toward a more country-based sound, with a repertoire that includes the likes of Vince Gill, Blake Shelton and Maren Morris, they also venture into plenty of other areas when they perform live. A cappella versions of tunes made famous by Ed Sheeran, Shakira or The O'Jays are just as likely to enter their performance repertoire.

Home Free in Concert

The a cappella phenomenon known as Home Free came into being in Mankato, Minnesota, in 2000 when five young men, including brothers Adam and Chris Rupp, joined their voices together for the first time. Their repertoire was all over the map, including country, pop, soul and rock 'n' roll. The group eventually hit the road hard, and began releasing albums on their own label in 2007 starting with From the Top. But things changed in a big way for Home Free when they won the TV competition show The Sing-Off in 2013. By that time they'd become more country-oriented, and after earning a record deal with Sony/Columbia their albums started regularly entering the upper rungs of country charts. Several personnel changes occurred over the years, the biggest when Chris Rupp departed in 2016, but in their current incarnation Home Free still bring the a cappella magic to the stage every time.

    Not exactly a Christmas concert

by Confused on 12/31/23The Andrew J Brady Music Center - Cincinnati

We love HomeFree and have seen them several times. This was a letdown. Their advertised “Home for the Holidays” concert was only about 1/2 Christmas themed music. Walked out bummed after making the trip.

    Slightly disappointed

by JB on 12/28/23Tyson Events Center - Sioux City

First of all the guys have beautiful voices. Don’t get me wrong in this review. I bought these tickets for my wife as a surprise for the holidays. My disappointment was all the music that was non-Holiday related. When you go to a show two days before Christmas that is called, their holiday show, we expect more holiday music. Honestly, I could’ve done without the three minute beatboxing solo. I know the sounds he makes with the mic enhance the show, but some of the bass sounds made with a microphone or so loud we both left with headaches. And I grew up in the 80s with the hair bands. I still love to crank it up now and then, but some of the bass that they were hitting was absolutely ridiculous. All in all they were not bad by any means I loved some of their music. Just disappointed that we didn’t get much of a holiday show.

    by Gabe2001 on 12/27/23Scheels Arena - Fargo

Home Free delivers great sound but I wish they had a camera and big screen so that those of us sitting a football field away could see who was who.

Left us wishing for more “Christmas Spirit”

by Dee on 12/25/23Scheels Arena - Fargo

Home Free is a really amazing vocal group and the beat boxing was great, however, being that it was on Friday, December 22. We were hoping that there would’ve been quite a bit more Christmas music than there was so that was a little disappointing.
