About

HIEROGLYPHICS IN CONCERT:

Legendary Oakland hip hop collective Hieroglyphics has been holding it down for more than two decades with their thoughtful lyrics, sample-heavy productions, and iconic style. The underground heroes are known for their electrifying live shows, where founding member Del tha Funkee Homosapien exchanges verses with Casual, Pep Love, and the group's six other members. Whether they're playing "Make Your Move" from their seminal 1999 debut album 3rd Eye Vision or getting fans moving with material from 2013's The Kitchen, the Hieroglyphics crew do it all with style, flair, and intensity on their unforgettable tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Oakland-based hip hop collective Hieroglyphics was founded in the early '90s by Del tha Funkee Homosapien, a cousin of rapper Ice Cube who had already achieved some success as a solo artist before launching the crew. The group quickly became an underground sensation, flooring fans with an impressive lineup that included DJ Toure, rappers Casual and Pep Love, and the four members of the Souls of Mischief, among others. After several years of playing live shows and releasing bootlegs, Hieroglyphics released their official debut album 3rd Eye Vision in 1998. The record landed at No. 26 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart, establishing them as a rising force and drawing them out on the road for extensive touring. Their 2003 sophomore album Full Circle was an even bigger success, peaking at No. 7 on the Heatseekers chart and earning recognition as one of the seminal hip hop albums of the decade. It was another ten years before they released their third album The Kitchen, but it was worth the wait -- fans and critics alike praised the 2013 album as a welcome return to form for the beloved group. Electrifying performers known for their dynamic sets in concert, Hieroglyphics continue to get fans moving and shaking on their must-see tours.

    Great music, venue was awful

by M. Cvlo on 8/28/19Smiling Moose - Pittsburgh

Music was fantastic but I had to leave and couldn’t enjoy it because the venue was oversold. There wasn’t an inch of room to stand. Total waste of money.

    Bucket List Experience!

by SoulSerenade on 8/26/19Smiling Moose - Pittsburgh

First off I wanna start by saying I've been waiting 10 years to see Hieroglyphics live. Finally I get my opportunity in Pittsburgh and damn did they play a mean show! To see them live was nothing short of life changing honestly.

    Terrible venue for legendary act

by Riddum on 8/26/19Smiling Moose - Pittsburgh

Unfortunately, The sound system was completely inadequate and distorted the entire time. Size of the venue was also too small for the crowd. Hiero made the most of it and put on a decent show, but you could tell even they were annoyed by the lack of stage size, heat etc. Blue Moose was an embarrassment for Pittsburgh and I would never pay for a show there again.

    Hieroglyphics M.I.A

by KobeFan on 1/25/11Key Club - West Hollywood

I had been looking forward to this concert for weeks, but was let down big time. I was very disappointed to see that they performed without lead man Del or Tajai. That's a quarter of the crew missing in action. Needless to say the show must go on. Highlights of the night was seeing pep luv perform a couple songs and souls of mischief perform their 93 til infinity classic without tajai. Overall however a disappointment.

    Where was Del?

by BareA on 1/25/11Key Club - West Hollywood

They pushed the door back 30 minutes. The opening acts were alright. I really bought the ticket to see the main act. Two of the members in the group were not there including Del. I mainly wanted to see him perform and that is primarily why i bought the ticket. It was a little disappointing and we left the show an hour into their set.

    Heiro minus Del

by krewcial on 1/25/11Key Club - West Hollywood

I really came just to see Del, who wasn't even there, although the tickets and flyers said he would. Disappointing.
