CHICAGO, IL  — Award-winning actor and musician Hershey Felder (George Gershwin Alone, Monsieur Chopin, Beethoven As I Knew Him) returns to Chicago with Maestro: The Art of Leonard Bernstein.  Combining first-person narrative with the music of composer Bernstein and the artists who inspired him, Maestro: The Art of Leonard Bernstein is the story of the legendary American composer and longtime music director of the New York Philharmonic.

Helmed by award-winning director Joel Zwick, Hershey Felder will return to Chicago's Royal George Theatre, where from September 2004 through January 2006, he held residence with George Gershwin Alone and the World Premiere of Monsieur Chopin, culminating in 70 weeks of live performances. Maestro will begin previews on November 1st with an official opening on November 9th, and will play through the 30th of December.

    Hershey Felder is simply amazing!

    This is the 2nd Hershey Felder event that we have have been to...the other begin 'Beethovan I Hardly Knew You'. Both were spectacultar. Felder portrays numerous characters in his 1 man show and makes you believe that he is...them. He was Bernstein...and his mother... his father...his teachers and so many more characters. He intermixes those acting skills with his considerable skills as a pianist and wonderful vocals for a 1 man performance the likes of which we have never seen. We will go see any performance that Felder puts performs. We understand that he is working on a performance having to do with Lincoln and can harldy wait to attend.

    Hershey does it again!

    Loved the show, the music, the humor, and the intimate look into the life of Bernstein. Hershey is an amazing talent. We've previously seen his Beethoven and Gershwin shows, and loved them as well. The most enjoyable two hours of our holiday! Highly recommended!

    We loved every minute. Felder truly inhabits Bernstein, and one learns so much about him and composing and conducting and about the conductors of the period. Fascinating insights. Felder plays piano divinely.

    Hershey Felder is an incredible talent --Almost comparable to Bernstein, himself! His portrayal evoked nostalgia, pathos, and gratitude. It was a great show. Highly recommended!

    I was very surprised at how wonderful Hershey was in the play. He took on the character of Bernstein beautifully. It was amazing how much you learned about Bernstein that you didn't know or realize before you saw this play.
