    Absolute Must See!

by San Diego Debbie on 4/17/23Balboa Theatre - San Diego

I saw Hershey Felder for the first time a few months ago as Chopin in Paris. I absolutely had to see him as George Gershwin. He did not disappoint! This show is actually going to be retired as Gershwin was 38 when he died, and Hershey feels he can't pull it off much longer. The show was phenomenal. If you've never seen Hershey Felder, when the show is over, he has an audience interaction and allows questions. This time there was a sing-a-long. One lady soloed on "Embraceable You." It turned out she is a social worker at a prison. Hershey promised that the next time he is on the West Coast, he will go and play music at the prison. He never breaks a promise! So incredible!

    He was brilliant!

by JL on 4/17/23Balboa Theatre - San Diego

I never tire of seeing Hershey Felder - his talent, it seems, is never ending. This show was especially poignant since we will never see this character again, and Gershwin is such a colorful character. Felder has obviously studied Gershwin in depth - he knows him, and becomes him, during the show, which makes you feel like you are watching Gershwin himself on the stage, especially if you close your eyes - he even sounds like him. The piano pieces were brilliant, culminating in his solo rendition of "Rhapsody in Blue" which brought the house down! But, he didn't end it there. Instead, he brought the house lights up and answered as many questions as he could from the audience. Truly a Master and one we should cherish forever!

Hershey Felder embodies George Gershwin as no other can. The nuances, the voice, the music, and the humor are all deeply embodied in this man's amazing performance.

    Much more than I expected!

    by H. B. on 4/12/23Balboa Theatre - San Diego

The show was wonderful. I have wanted to see this for years but never had the opportunity so when I saw that this was his final tour portraying GG, I knew I had to make it happen. Mr. Felder was marvelous in his portrayal and the information with details that he provided made the story come alive. In particular, I enjoyed the "after" performance when we all sang together and he took audience questions. It was so much fun. I am looking forward to his next San Diego visit.

    Best ever Hershey Felder performance!

by JDM on 4/12/23Balboa Theatre - San Diego

I was smiling thru the whole show taking it all in. Hershey is a master performer and I felt that this was the best George Gershwin show he’s ever done. I saw it maybe 10 years ago along with his other shows but this one felt the most natural in how he spoke to the audience. It was as though a friend was sharing an incredible story about Gershwin’s life and amazing talent. Hershey was absolutely amazing as he told the story with so many facts and anecdotes. What a memory!! When he spoke of Porgy and Bess and played the music as the opera singers sang, tears were streaming down my face. I was so very touched by the deep feeling Gershwin was able to convey thru the story. The whole performance is etched in my memory for a very long time. I hope he will perform it again!!

I have attended other Felder concerts and was excited to attend his portrayal of Gershwin. Felder is an extraordinary pianist and story teller. His performance is riveting and educational. A refreshing evening with a phenomenal performer. Thank you Mr Felder for your dedication to music and providing a glimpse of the past through the composer story and bringing it to life.

Hershey Felder is a genius. His IQ must be sky high. He plays the piano flawlessly—a truly gifted pianist. During the performance he became George Gershwin. I learned so much about Ira and George Gershwin. Brilliance!!
