So, I don't know if Tannahills is just a much better venue than I've been to in the last 3 years; but I do think that has A LOT to do with it; lets start there! sound was great; unlike; not naming any names; but there's a place up the street that's ICONIC but the sound is just horrific... So start with actually being able to hear what the singers are singing and pickers are playing; heck we could even hear those awesome harmonies! and NOT an over trebled; over re-verbed; Karaoke sound with obvious sweeteners (backing track) blaring so loud that it sounds like a muddle mess... NOT HERE! GREAT SOUND balance; fun and not over bearing lights; really just perfect. So GREAT JOB Tannahills! which leads me to; Hayes sounded better than I've heard in a minute; not that he's sounded bad ever!, that's not why I'm saying, at all; I just didn't realize HOW good it could be! He had a new picker (I think he's new to the band; don't remember him) he played lead guitar; dobro, mandolin and could probably play just about anything he wanted; His name is Travis Linville; and he's a star in his own right... wow just wow.. the extra that he brought can't be bottled...it's best taken live and with a cold beer... he literally lift Hayes music to another level! LOVED LOVED the bassist who picked note for note with Travis; and oh those harmonies; not to be outdone by his percussionist who played everything from a can of beans to a straw broom! he's not to be left out at all!!! he just rounded it all out! It really was the best show I've seen Hayes Carll put on; (we missed Allison fyi) BUT he put it all out there! I loved it so so much!!!
Great music and he was engaging with the audience. Would definitely go see him again!
This was our first visit to Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and we were not disappointed. We have seen Hayes in the past and he was awesome great mix of new material and his hits. Hayes is such a great story teller and performer.
Always enjoy Hayes Carll, he is a great singer/ song writer. He puts on a great show, and his stories are hilarious. First time at Ponte Verde concert hall, but will go back.
Love these guys individually and together they were great. Thank you to the dinosaur and the furry guy
Fine rising singer-songwriter now with an excellent band!
Hayes is a gifted musician who always bring his A game. It’s great to catch him at these intimate venues!
Hayes Carll is as great a performer as he is a songwriter and much better guitar player than I had realized. The band was great. The rhythm section somehow laying down the coolest grooves while signing some of the best harmonies I've ever heard. Finally, the sound at the show was fantastic. How much is attributable to Carll and how much to the Brighton Music Hall, I don't know, but it was fantastic.
Hayes Carll opens himself up and shares his thoughts and feelings more than any other musician I can think of. He feels like an old friend. He is so comfortable in his skin, but I think it took him a long time to get there, so it seems to be the result of his choices and getting there. His slower paced, more acoustic songs ("Help Me Remember" about dementia) are incredibly touching. But his rockers ("Bad Kidney and a Broken Heart") rock out with the best of them. He has a tight band but he is the clear star. He comes across as quite laid back, but he obviously is very thoughtful and dedicated to his craft. Brighton Music Hall is a small club, having space for maybe 200-300 people, but only a few high top chairs at the back of the room. Sound quality and sight lines are excellent. Good selection of craft beers on tap as well as a full bar. Prices are very reasonable.
