Halestorm's hit single "Love Bites (So Do I)" won the 2013 Grammy Award in the Best Hard Rock/Metal category, kicking the Pennsylvania-bred band's career into overdrive. The honored song appeared on the band's second album, The Strange Case Of ..., and represented the culmination of more than a decade spent honing their craft on tour and in the studio. Core members and siblings Lzzy Hale (lead vocals, guitar) and Arejay Hale (drums) began playing music together as children, eventually adding Josh Smith on bass and Joe Hottinger on guitar. By 2005, the band was getting attention from major labels, thanks in large part to Lzzy's powerful vocals, which can easily transition from nuanced to roaring. Halestorm's first major-label studio album, a self-titled set released in 2009, sent two singles -- "I Get Off" and "It's Not You" -- into the Top 10 on Billboard's Active Rock chart. The Strange Case Of ... followed three years later, and topped Billboard's Hard Rock album chart, helping to make tickets for the band's 2013 club tour a hot item. Halestorm often play upwards of 250 concerts a year; and in 2013 they supported Bullet for My Valentine in North America and in the UK.
