    Let the Sunshine In!

by RarnChild on 10/23/22Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

I was 13 when Hair premiered, so needless to say, I wasn't allowed to see it. This was my first opportunity to attend, and I'm glad I did. I can't believe how far ahead of its time it was, and how we still seem to be fighting for the same issues today - 50+ years later!

    Hair was just Ok

by ED on 9/28/22Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

I usually love the shows at the Basie but I was underwhelmed by Hair. The acoustics were not as good as usual and I was unable to understand the words of songs which I knew. That said, it could be that I’ve just aged out of this show because it used to be one of my favorites

    Great show!

by Marge on 9/28/22Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

I originally saw Hair on Broadway the day after the Kent State shootings. The level of passion seeing it during the time was very different and probably cannot be recreated by people who were not even born yet. However, that being said, the show was great; the actors/actresses were great, and the music was great. And we still remain a divided nation, not so different now than in 1968. The only negative was that the words of the music were not always clear.

    I left at intermission.

by Aquarius on 9/27/22Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

The sound was piercing. The story was hardly part of the production. It felt like a college cabaret. No props nor scenery. We had front row loge and had to sit on the edge of the chair because we could not see the front of the stage. 👎🏼

Great show but the theater has some issues

by CurlzNJ on 9/27/22Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

The show had a huge cast of truly talented singers, and considering this is a community theater group, we were definitely impressed overall. That said, $50+ for a community theater show isn't inexpensive, so I'd like to think our first comments wouldn't be about the issues they had with sound. The bigger question is why (when there's still COVID around) was the theater so damn hot?? It's certainly not the cast's fault! People behind us left mid-way through the 2nd act. I heard the woman say "I just can't take it - it's too hot in here" and everyone around us (including me) was fanning themselves with their programs, so I know I wasn't the only one.

Wanted to leave within 10 minutes

by Usually Love Musicals on 9/27/22Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

Horrible, and that’s being nice. Was so loud that you could not understand what the actors were saying or singing. No real story line, kept waiting for something to happen that made sense, and if it did, I wouldn’t have been able to understand it because it was so loud and distorted! The ending was just uncalled for. No shock value, just stupid. What was the point? No one applauded at the end, that spoke volumes.

    Loved it!

by JoAnna on 9/26/22Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

My expectations were low for a local production of one of my favorite shows. Boy was I wrong. It was professional and fun. The talent ran deep from the lead actors right down to line. Fantastic really.

    Terrible

by Shangrala on 9/26/22Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

This was a terrible production. Individual performances were good but the whole thing together was a mess. No storyline whatsoever. I don’t know how anyone could follow what was happening. Saw Hair at Count Basie a few years ago and it was great!. Very, very disappointed with is one

    Hair: Production Great/Sound Awful

by PZ on 9/26/22Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

We saw Hair at Count Basie Center for Performing Arts in Red Bank. The production staging, cast and direction were super. The sound, however, was awful. We have seen numerous concerts at the Basie and the sound and accoustics have always been terrific. The sound for this production was not clear and way too loud. If you didn't know the lyrics, I would say you were unable understand a good two-thirds. Extremely amateurish and highly disappointing.
