Our seats were in the mezz. in Row G. It was difficult to understand the words of almost all of the performers. We were familiar with much of the libretto but could not understand some of the soloists or the chorus words when it was an unfamiliar song..

Music you will be singing in the shower

A great performance in a superb venue. This is the 2nd Gilbert and Sullivan operetta we have seen in Columbus performed by this travelling troupe and their performance was outstanding. All of the key players were well polished. In most cases the lyrics were understandable. I would recommend any performance put on by the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players

HMS Pinafore was a fun evening of operatic silliness just as Gilbert and Sullivan should be. The singing was solid and the acting was first rate. The soprano was a little difficult to understand despite her beautiful voice. Sir Joseph was a comedic delight. The chorus was animated and fun. There was one stop/restart during the dress rehearsal, but as a musician myself I enjoyed seeing that process. Overall I would recommend this to anyone looking for an lighthearted evening at the opera.

    The "Pinafore" Dress

by Figarooooo on 6/9/13Southern Theatre - Columbus

We attended the preview which was, for the most part, a run-through. They only stopped a couple times to correct ensemble problems and thus the flow wasn't disrupted greatly. The performers seemed to be having a good time which made it enjoyable to watch. I wish, though, that out-of-town groups would stop including the old Columbus cliche of the O-H-I-O call-and-response. So overdone...make it stop!

    H.M.S. Pinafore

by Anonymous on 2/25/13Fox Performing Arts Center - RIVERSIDE

A wonderful production. The actors were perfectly cast. All had strong voices and were perfectly complimented by the men and women in the chorus. Best production of the Pinafore that I have seen. Bravo.

A pretty lack luster performance, with aging actors.

The scenery, acting , singing was the greatest. I have seen the performance by doyle carte co and i liked this one the best.

Really a top notch cast and orchestra. 3rd row. First time in the theater. What a treasure for Des Moines. Enjoyed every moment.

    A lively version of Pinafore.

by Eccles on 7/23/12HOYT SHERMAN PLACE - Des Moines

The University of Iowa Opera company put on a great version of Pinafore. The cast were all young and exuberant, but sang with mature full voices. The set was designed well to make use of a rather small stage. The evening flew by!

    Pinafore nicely done

by Socdad on 7/22/12HOYT SHERMAN PLACE - Des Moines

Very "professional " production. Most voices were strong with a couple of exceptions. The projection of the song wording was a nice addition.
