About

GUY IN CONCERT:

New jack swing favorites Guy rode a string of R&B hits to fame in the late ‘80s, cementing their status as icons of the genre with their appearance in Mario Van Peebles aptly-titled 1991 film New Jack City. Boasting an impressive catalog of Top 5 R&B classics from their heyday, the group continues to dazzle at their live shows, often touring with other choice era acts like Al B. Sure and Tony! Toni! Tone! On the road again in 2014, Guy is sure to have plenty of booties in the aisles as they treat fans to electric renditions of funky hits like “My Fantasy” and crowd-favorite “I Like.”

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Harlem in 1987, Guy pioneered the burgeoning R&B subgenre new jack swing with their self-titled 1988 debut LP. The album went double platinum on the strength of three Top 5 R&B hits, raising the group’s profile and leading to writing gigs for a variety of artists including Bobby Brown and Boy George. 1990 sophomore LP The Future contained another string of hits, topping the R&B chart and landing the band a featured role in the 1991 gangster classic New Jack City. After a hiatus in the ‘90s, the band reunited for 2000’s Guy III, which contained their biggest pop hit to date with “Dancin’”. Back on tour in 2014, Guy will share the stage with a host of other legendary R&B acts that includes Salt-n-Pepa and El Debarge.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

“Guy was incredible, Aaron and Damian started the show with “I Like!” They snapped, Aaron Hall still has it, he came out his shirt, he pumped the floor on stage, he came out into the crowd and sang “I Miss You”… Finally Teddy Riley hit the stage, the crowd went wild.”

“Guy- great energy…Vocals were good. Showmanship great!”

“Guy was good, Aaron Hall is a character! It was so cool to hear Teddy Riley too!”

They put on an excellent performance got a chance to meet Aaron Hall, he was laughing because I was singing his song Don't Be Afraid. I took a picture with him. I am friend's with his brother Damion Hall when I see them again I will be in front right by the stage on March 19 2023.

by Deezy on 9/10/19Concord Pavilion - Concord

It was a sold out crowd, I saw almost everyone I went to High School with. It felt like one big class reunion. The Lawn is the best because you can interact with so many people. The show was amazing all the acts sounded the same way they did in the 90’s👌🏾🙌🏾💯. It was non-stop fun, oh and the Dj had it popping between sets🕺🏽💃🏽

    Great community, terrible sound

by MD on 9/5/19Concord Pavilion - Concord

I attend concerts quite often at all different bay area venues. The sound at this one was terrible- I am not sure why but the bass drowned the sound of the singers, and some singers had no mics, and other's mics failed at times! I wonder if there were any sound checks? Certainly where we were sitting section 105 was poor. However, the sense of community and energy was great! Everyone was on their feet dancing, singing along and enjoying themselves.

    Overall horrible experience

by Badbih on 9/5/19Concord Pavilion - Concord

The performers weren’t that great. Intermission in between artists were too long. And didn’t get to enjoy it because there were 2 to 3 fights going on! It was bad!! So I had to up and leave.

    Excellent line up

by Tan on 9/5/19Concord Pavilion - Concord

The concert itself was great! The fast track AAA line to get into the venue was a joke. We stood in line for 90 min, hence the 3 star rating. I’ve been to many concerts before and understand there are lots of people and there will be waiting. 90 min to get in is unacceptable.

    by Shaggy$2786 on 9/4/19Concord Pavilion - Concord

This is the 2nd year my daughters and I have purchased tickets for the early September events at the Concord Pavillion in memory of my son/their brother that loved most kinds of music. The lineup this year was great! Our favorite was SWV. My daughters grew up listening to this music. Sold out crowd and all was great! Thank you!
