    Amazing!!!

    by JerseyHeart on 12/14/16Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

As always Maestro Dudamel and YOLA did not disappoint. The show was amazing. I saw the opening show in Northridge and traveled to Oakland to see the closing show! Would see them again anytime.

    Short performance! Only four pieces.

    by Chupachups on 11/6/16Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

Such a huge expectation to see Gustavo Dudamel and YOLA in concert but performance was too short. They could have played few more pieces and everyone would have had a better appreciation of the music these talented can make.

Dudamel was fantastic! So was the youth orchestra.

    by Sarat99 on 11/3/16Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

Gustavo Dudamel is a beautiful conductor, amazing humanitarian and inspiring perfectionist. The Paramount Theater was a wonderful place to listen to this music. This is the second time I have seen him conduct in person and he is truly a master. The video that was woven into the performance gave such a great history of this orchestra. It is so much more than a youth orchestra. He only charged $5 for tickets so it was available to most people.

As Usual, YOLA and Dudamel Prove Inspirational

    by KR503 on 11/2/16Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

Unfortunately, there is no other chance to see this particular tour by YOLA, Gustavo Dudamel's LA-based youth orchestra (fashioned after his Bolivian youth orchestra, both of which us "la sistema" to teach amazing orchestral playing to kids who are young enough to amaze you with their prowess. Dudamel, who is the young and brilliant "new Leonard Bernstein," taking the world by storm with his personality, musicianship and caring about the current world situation and thinking music can heal, has no equal. His work is nothing less than inspirational. As was this concert, at the incredible Paramount Theatre in Oakland, CA, with a sold-out crowd, filled with young people as well as old. Rarely do you see young people at a classical concert, but they were wide-eyed and hooked, and watching the reaction of the kids in the audience was the best part. Although, disappointingly, Gustavo did not speak directly to the audience, film clips were shown between each piece, which allowed you to see the orchestra in rehearsal, and led seamlessly into the next live performance. This was closing night of their first tour, which was all around California, and marked the tenth anniversary of the orchestra. If you get another chance to see this group, perhaps in Los Angeles, or elsewhere, don't pass it up.

Performance was fun, beautiful, inspirational !! Opportunity changes everything. So great to see how these kids lives have improved thru music with the mentoring they've received and dedication to mastering their instruments - and seeing beyond their individual challenges.

YOLA is a Super Group! Happy 10th Anniversary.

    by CALtraveler on 11/2/16Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

It was an amazing orchestra of young adults. Based on the interwoven videos on the story of YOLA , they are dedicated and enthusiastic musicians. It clearly showed in their performance. I was my first Dudamel concert. He was as amazing as I had heard. I really respect him for giving his time to this group of students. Ironically, earlier in the day I had run the 49er Rush 5K at Levi's Stadium. As I didn't watch this year's Super Bowl, I didn't know until seeing a video segment on YOLA's half time performance with Coldplay, Bruno Mars and Beyonce. It was well deserved. I wish many more great anniversaries to come.

    A Fantastic Concert

    by 2enthusiastic on 11/2/16Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

The concert was amazing and thoroughly enjoyable. The Youth Orchestra performed flawlessly and the music came purely and with raw emotion. We could have been listening to any professional orchestra. The fact that the children were 12 to 18 years old was totally irrelevant to the quality of their performance--they presented an excellent, professional quality performance. Certainly Gustavo Dudamel's talent and passion for the music influenced their performance. They are lucky to have him as their conductor. The videos highlighted this with the children's personal stories and scenes of how Gustavo made the music come alive with his personal impressions and enthusiasm. We were treated to a phenomenal performance and it made many of us wish for something as wonderful and vibrant in our own local communities.
