About

GRIMES IN CONCERT:

In concert, Canadian critical darling Grimes creates a one-woman whirlwind of lush samples to conjure her catchy, electro dream-pop. Far from merely pushing play, the singer layers her angelic vocals in real time to produce otherworldly soundscapes. Her elaborate harmonies give the electronic songs a human core, due in no small part to her thoughtfully crafted lyrics. To top it off, Grimes throws trance-inducing keyboard runs over her looping beats and vocals, adding a melodic edge to tracks like “REALiTi”, “Oblivion” and “Genesis”. Appearing on Lana Del Rey’s Endless Summer Tour in 2015, Grimes promises to give ticket buyers an invigorating, cerebral experience with her extraordinary blend of human passion and technological precision.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Grimes, aka Claire Elise Boucher, was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1988. Most of her musical background comes from studying ballet for 11 years as a child, though she didn’t play any instruments until she went to McGill University in Montreal. In the late '00s she began borrowing musical equipment from her friends to produce experimental electronica under the name Grimes. The prodigious young talent soon made her 2010 cassette debut with Geidi Primes, which was reissued on CD and vinyl after she earned an opening spot for Lykke Li in 2011. Her third album, 2012’s Visions, received a Best New Music nod from Pitchfork, which also named her single “Oblivion”the best song of the year. As fans eagerly awaited a follow up to Visions, the singer released the single “REALiTi” in 2015 only weeks before she began touring in support of Lana Del Rey.

Played 1.5 songs then the show was over.

Worse show I ever been to. The Moody center sucks! Grimes only played 1 and a half songs then bailed. She didn't even sing. I wonder if it was even her on stage or someone in a white hair wig playing a Grimes track. Swedish house mafia rushed through they're set and show over. No show for other dj. I lost respect for all these artists. This app sucks because it won't let me give zero stars.

    I was blown away.

by AntLOX on 6/26/16Electric Factory - Philadelphia

Hana opened the show, she was great, even played a cool new song. Grimes (with Hana now as a backup dancer) was above and beyond a fully formed character. She sung mostly new songs but did pay her biggest hits. She dances with three beautiful girls and wants the crowd to dance along. She usually plays a pre recorded message asking people to dance, but didn't have to for this crowd. What blew me away was her performance of World princess Part II Which features very long Notes on the chorus. She was visibly weak after the song.

    Grimes was a vivid dream

by Cgs23 on 6/7/16The Electric Factory - Philadelphia

The opening act HANA was amazing and she did backup vocals the entire Grimes performance which rocked. The dancers were also GREAT. Grimes was so cute, had studio quality vocals, and owned the stage and made the crowd super hype... Loved the concert! Kill V Maim was an incredible encore. Overall unreal experience.

Best concert I've been to in years

by EmLaB on 6/7/16Electric Factory - Philadelphia

Grimes, HANA and the dancers brought down the house with every single song performed. The energy was at a high I've only witnessed a few times. This was an absolutely incredible time.

    My First Grimes Event

by Tarxi on 6/6/16Electric Factory - Philadelphia

The whole thing blew my mind. Loved how Hana opened, everything about the setlist, the dancers, and of course Grimes. Forever changed how I experience their music. I fully expect to go to any other Grimes/Hana show within 3 hours of where I live. Amazing.

    Grimes SLAYED it!

by flamingkitte on 6/6/16Electric Factory - Philadelphia

The performance was full of amazing lighting, smoke, dancing, and lots of ribbon twirling. I felt like I was at a smokey Marina and the Diamonds show. And that's a GOOD THING. Her performance was augmented by an amazing pair of back-up dancers AND the opener HANA danced along, too. In between songs, Grimes would maybe say a few words. She was very sweet and personal. The bass was incredible, and perfect. The energy of the show was non-stop and hyper, even during the instrumental interlude. I was bouncing up and down out of my stool the entire show. The setlist was well selected. Mostly from her latest album, but a pair of songs off of Visions, and a few otherwise. High energy songs and very popular.

    Grimes killed it yet again.

by Concertist on 6/6/16Electric Factory - Philadelphia

The show was fabulous and her set list was spot on. Hana as an opener was also great AND stayed on with or as a part of Grimes. That was two sets of great pipes belting it out to the beats thrown down. The only thing that was tough is it was a bit too tightly packed and some of the crowd was dumb about it.

The venue was super cool. Doors opened on time, show started promptly. Grimes was absolutely fabulous. Although she only played I believe 10-12 songs, she sounded great for having the flu!
