About

Former RNZB Artistic Director Ethan Stiefel’s classic production of Giselle first toured New Zealand in 2012, to critical acclaim and sell-out audiences. Subsequently performed by the RNZB in China, the USA, the UK and Italy, and turned into a feature film by New Zealand director Toa Fraser, this is a welcome opportunity for New Zealand audiences to again see this hauntingly beautiful ballet.

In a remote village, the beautiful and innocent Giselle is courted and captivated by a mysterious stranger. When he is revealed as Count Albrecht, betrothed to another, Giselle, broken hearted, descends into madness and death.

In the forest, the Wilis, vengeful ghosts of jilted brides, meet to greet their recently arrived sister: Giselle, who rises from her grave to join their ranks. Albrecht arrives to mourn, and the Wilis exact their revenge, compelling him to dance until he dies from exhaustion. Giselle shields him from their fury, until the first light of day brings the promise of forgiveness and redemption.

    Very disappointing.

by Performing arts lover on 3/14/24Sandler Center For The Performing Arts - Virginia Beach

My guests and I were very disappointed in the performance quality. Giselle is a beautiful ballet and should only be performed by those with the technical and artistic talent it demands. The Keiv Ballet company was unable to do the ballet justice. Their level of professionalism was at the level of a local ballet company at best. A few of the dancers were barely able to get fully on pointe. Certainly not what we expected.

    Stunning

by Opal on 3/14/24Sandler Center For The Performing Arts - Virginia Beach

I sat in the front row, close enough to hear the dancers' labored breathing and endless jumps. The performance was spectacular! I've never seen such dedication and emotion from ballet dancers before. The actress playing Giselle had tears in her eyes during the mad scene. Bravo to the Grand Kiev Ballet!

    Not what we expected

Great dancers. Bad choreography and sets. If you never saw Giselle before you would have no idea what was happening.

    We loved Giselle

by VisitorUK on 3/13/18Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

We were visiting San Diego from England and booked this show late, but we are so glad that we did, it was wonderful. The performance by the dancers was exquisite and in such a historical theatre. We had never seen this ballet before and based on this performance we will definitely go and see it again. Thank you to everyone involved in its production.

    Awesome

by Ljwalden1999 on 3/12/18Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

This was our first ballet for my husband & I, and we were so surprised. It was absolutely beautiful. The story was easy to understand and the costumes were appropriately matched. I highly recommend this ballet to anyone, experienced in the art or not. Of course the venue at the Spreckels theater was pretty amazing, as well. We loved it!

    Tampa Ballet Theatre Giselle

by BalletFan99 on 11/14/17U.S. Cellular Center Asheville - Asheville

This was amazing! Giselle's performance grabbed my attention and pulled at my heart the entire show. The choreography was superb and executed flawlessly which allowed me to feel a part of the story. My hat is off to this young dance company that may be small in size, but hits a grand slam with top rate talent. I'll certainly be watching for other Tampa Ballet Theatre productions in the future.
