Grammy Award winners The Gipsy Kings bring an infectious energy to the world of flamenco pop with their multiple-guitar attack and fiery melodies. Led by Nicolas Reyes’ soaring vocals and Tonino Baliardo’s soaring guitar flourishes, the band brilliantly takes these traditional world music sounds and marries them to a contemporary sensibility. They cultivate an all-inclusive feeling at their live shows with a multitude of guitarists, percussionists, and vocalists that combine to create a rich wall of sound that envelopes ticket buyers. The Gipsy Kings are sure to captivate with their signature style, beautiful sound, and amazing flair on their highly anticiapted 2015 World Tour.
Ever since cousins Nicolas Reyes and Tonino Baliardo founded the group in 1978, The Gipsy Kings have been integral in popularizing flamenco and fusion music across the globe. The two were born in the south of France but raised with Spanish Romani traditions that were passed down from their Romani parents who fled Spain during the Spanish Civil War. The fledgling group began roving the countryside, playing weddings and parties as they earned their reputation as musical gypsies. The band found worldwide success in 1988 with their self-titled third album, which contained hits like “Bomboleo”, “Un Amor”, and “Djobi Djoba”. They scored another hit the following year with their rendition of “Volare”, which went to the top of the Hot Latin Singles chart in the US. Even though they’d become a household name the group maintained their gypsy lifestyle by constantly touring the world over the following quarter century. In 2013 The band celebrated their 35th anniversary in style by winning a Grammy for Best World Music Album for Savor Flamenco.
