GHOSTS OF JUPITER IN CONCERT:

Boston-based psych rock outfit Ghosts of Jupiter puts a modern twist on the sounds of the ‘70s with their relaxed vocal harmonies, warm guitar tones, and space-age synths. Bandleader Nate Wilson is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, and as such he brings top-notch musicianship to the stage at every Ghosts of Jupiter show. He’s not alone—Wilson has surrounded himself with a supremely talented group of musicians who combine prog rock-worthy chops with laid-back playing style that perfectly suits the band’s hazy psychedelic vibe. In addition to guitar, bass, and drums, the band has two keyboardists (one of whom doubles on flute) to help them conjure up their hallucinatory, synth-washed sound. The band often pairs their music with kaleidoscopic projections, and the combination of wild visuals and transcendent tracks like “The Great Bright Horses” makes every Ghosts of Jupiter show a decidedly satisfying trip.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Ghosts of Jupiter formed in the late ‘00s as the Nate Wilson Group, taking their name from bandleader and former Percy Hill Keyboardist Nate Wilson. A conservatory-trained musician and sought-after session player, Wilson put together a seriously talented group of rockers for the band’s 2008 debut album Unbound. After changing their name to Ghosts of Jupiter, the band released a self-titled album in 2011 that established their powerful blend of classic and psychedelic rock. In 2012 they adapted the eponymous album for Ghosts of Jupiter: Music Experience, a planetarium show at Boston’s Museum of Science that paired the 45-minute LP with original animations created exclusively for the museum. The show’s breathtaking visuals and otherworldly sounds drew rave reviews, and the band kept the momentum going the following year with their stellar album Green Is Gold Vol. 1. After enlisting a second keyboardist and flute player to their lineup, the band returned to the studio to record their fourth album. The result, 2016’s Great Bright Horses, features a relaxed, retro sound that ticket buyers are eager to bliss out on at the band’s live shows.
