    Ghost the Musical

Weak lead characters. Overused special effects. Left at intermission. The play was not engaging.

    Ghost

by Oscarella on 1/31/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I had some trouble with the actual music, not the acting. Most of the songs except Unchained Melody were corny and just didn't seem to go with the story. I did like the song sung by the psychic and her cohorts. There was also some trouble with the sound. It was so loud that the words were distorted and we were unable to understand them while they were singing. I don't know if that was all over the theater or just in our location.

Ghost was excellent. It was also the first play in the last year that I saw at the Oriental where the music did not drown out the vocals.

    It's Just OK!

by Sandman2010 on 1/23/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

It's a hard story to adapt considering you have a ghost concept. They did very well on that aspect and some scene were very good, but overall it is just OK. Some parts are just boring. I suggest you see the movie first so you would understand what is going on.

It just seemed like they were trying to remake the movie on stage instead of making a musical. You can't really compete with the movie, but I was hoping for more creativity to make it amazing in its own way.

The critics had not given this musical a good review. So we were skeptical. However, we were pleasantly surprised. It was very good. It sustained our interest throughout.

This show was terrible! Except for Carla R. Stewart, and the two women who performed with her in first psychic scene, the voices were poor (weak, off key, etc) and the acting was even worse. The choreography was not very impressive and many of the dancers were stumbling. This cast seemed inexperienced, which made the show seem more like an average High School performance than a professional musical. The special effects, unfortunately, weren't special enough to save this show. It was a complete waste of time and money.

Special effects were great, but the 2 leads were weak, especially the girl.

    Not Good!

by KissFan12 on 1/22/14Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I suppose because Unchained Melody is such a wonderful song, I thought Ghost the Musical was great idea. I was wrong. The story does not translate well to the stage. The songs were cheesy and so were the dancers that would come out in between scenes. In addition to that the lead actors had bad singing voices. My friend and I each agreed Ghost was the worst musical we'd ever seen. Disappointing
