    Ghost Brothers Tried Too Hard

by comlbroker on 1/5/15The Buell Theatre - Denver

I had high hopes for this play, I have read every Stephen King book and like John Mellencamp's music. However, this play failed to impress. Some of the actors "over-acted" and were like a parody of their character. A few of them delivered a good performance. But the play and the story went on too long. It should have stopped at a gripping scene with the youngest brother (I won't ruin the surprise). This was not time or money well spent.

Story plot was unbelievably horrible and stupid

by Anonymous on 1/4/15The Buell Theatre - Denver

With John Mellencamp, T. Bone Burnett and Stephen King involved, I thought we hit the lottery and this was going to be PHENOMENAL. How wrong I was. This was absolutely horrible--horrible plot, lackluster acting (nothing could've saved these poor actors with what they were handed in a script). King has lost his edge in storytelling completely. Mellencamp and Burnett's involvement with the music was the best thing BY FAR, but still couldn't save the downward spiral we all found ourselves in with this production. And I LOVE Gina Gershon! I felt horrible for her and others involved.

    Such a unique theater experience!

by IPIP on 12/28/14The Buell Theatre - Denver

This entire story was told through music and song. A small, talented cast kept the audience captivated through the entire performance and I didn't even realize that much time had passed when intermission came around. The music was so perfect for the story also! I highly recommend this to anyone!

    Ghost Brothers

Totally didn't expect the ending! King and Mellencamp totally outdid themselves! :)

Slow at first, then leaves you on the edge

    by amt318 on 12/17/14Oriental Theater - Chicago

At first I thought this was going to be disappointing because the story was a bit hard to follow at first, but that's typical Stephen King. Once the story started to come together, I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen. The ending is a surprise and a great one. The music was good and the actor who played the dad was FANTASTIC!! He actually sounded like John Mellencamp with that raspy tone. As always in musicals there were some songs that could have been left out but for the most it was entertaining. The acting was good too and no one was overacting their part. I'd recommend this show to anyone who is an avid theater-goer. Even my kids, 15 & 17 liked the show.

Ghost Brothers of Darkland Co, AMAZING!

by TGLC on 12/16/14Saban Theatre - Beverly Hills

We had been waiting months to see this show and drove 3 hours to make it happen. It was beyond what I had hoped for and the best Christmas present we ever bought ourselves! The venue was terrific, the music worked so well with the story and had us laughing, singing and sitting on the edge of our seats! The cast was wonderful and the story, timeless!

Ghost Brothers was a Southern Trance ...

by sinny777 on 12/11/14Saban Theatre - Beverly Hills

Great musical with music by John Mellencamp, musical direction by T Bone Burnett (and he was playing at the end of the musical - blue-harp to beat the band) members of the JM band provided the cool music. And, thanks Stephen King for adding the dark to Darkland County!! Leads Billy Burke and Gina Gershon were great! Get your beverages and snacks early, as the bar and concessions was waaay overcrowded at intermission and the lines were very long.

Once in a lifetime experience !

by JuniorT on 12/9/14The Buell Theatre - Denver

The production was amazing! I waited a long time for the show to come through Denver and it was more than I could have dreamed. The actors were incredible and the music was so incredibly delivered and fitting to all the scenes. I wish I could see it again. I can only hope that it was recorded for sale on DVD. I so enjoyed the whole production. I was very familiar with the music before the show and having seen the production up close and personal, I confess it was not easy to sit still, it moved me tremendously. The intensity of it all coming together right in front of me was something I will never forget. It was very satisfying to have experienced such a magnificent production. The Mellencamp band really delivered. Definitely missed John. The music continues to resonate, thank you Andy, Dane, Jon & Troye, very well done. LOVE the harmonica! I look forward to next time we meet.

    Interesting Collaboration

by RealtorDonna on 12/9/14Saban Theatre - Beverly Hills

When I learned that Stephen King and John Mellencamp were teaming up to write a musical, I got very excited. These are two of my favorites. While I loved the concept, it didn't translate very well to the stage. King's story was perfect for a short story read, but seeing it onstage left me wanting more. The music, however, was top notch. Having Mellencamp's band there made it worth the price of the ticket! T-Bone Burnett's musical direction also was amazing. I was a little disappointed, in the long run. But I'm glad I saw it!

A good simple play for a night out

by Alkayted on 12/8/14Fisher Theatre - Detroit

This performance is somewhat like reading a novel by King. You can see everything on the stage all at once and there are many interactions between the characters. Not a complicated play, but it keeps enough mystery right until the very end that it's worth watching. It only seems to be predictable. The lighting was well done. The singing was excellent. Some of the songs were bland and there was little choreography during the solos. I enjoyed having some of the sound effects done live on stage.
