About

GEORGE LAMOND IN CONCERT:

From his days as a Latin freestyle icon to his stint as a salsero, George Lamond has remained a powerhouse vocalist known for his passionate delivery and red-hot live shows. In concert Lamond performs beat-heavy jams like “Bad of the Heart” and “Look into My Eyes” with all the fire and energy you’d expect from a freestyle star, inspiring sing-alongs with his emotional croon and getting fans dancing with his infectious hip-shaking. Lamond brings equal parts sensitivity and swagger to the stage, kicking out his party-worthy hits with just the right mix of emotion and stone-cold confidence. Whether he’s singing his sweat-inducing freestyle classics or breaking hearts with his chart-topping salsa smash “Que Tu Te Vas”, Lamond is a dynamic performer with an incredible sense for the groove and a smooth, sultry voice that hits all the right notes.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

George Lamond, aka George Garcia, was born in Washington, D.C. but moved to his parents’ native Puerto Rico at the tender age of two. Five years later the family returned to the states and settled in the Bronx area of New York City, where Lamond was exposed to the budding Latin freestyle scene during his teens. In 1989 he dropped his first single “Bad of the Heart”, a breakout hit that earned him a deal with Columbia Records. He released his debut album Bad of the Heart on the label the following year, reaching No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 on the strength of a string of popular singles like “No Matter What” and “Look Into My Eyes”. His 1992 sophomore album In My Life fared similarly thanks to a string of popular freestyle jams, but by the mid-‘90s Lamond was recording Spanish-language music more influenced by the sounds of salsa than NYC street styles. In 1999 he scored his first Top 10 hit on the Latin Tropical/Salsa Airplay chart with “Que Te Vas”, and he remained a fixture on the chart throughout the early ‘00s. It’s been a decade since he’s released an album, but Lamond continues to impress anytime he performs his unique catalog of freestyle and salsa hits on tour.

    Fantastic Show

by Meli R. on 10/25/23NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

This venue is perfect for the Monsters of Freestyle Fall show. This was my second year attending and these acts are amazing. Plus the nostalgia of hearing the songs I loved in Junior High and High School. Such a fun show. No seat is a bad seat. The artists are really engaging with the audience and genuinely seem as thrilled to be there as we are to see them perform. Definitely worth the money and again great venue for this type of event with multiple acts.

Monsters of Freestyle - Back in Black

by Joyce D on 10/24/23NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Horrible. This was supposed to be a freestyle concert with "over a dozen"artists - only if you counted all 3 of the Cover Girls. The ones that were advertised on NYCB Theater page did not all show up. Johnny O stood in the middle of the stage waving his hands and not singing, then asked the crowd if we knew the words, um do you? The artists came out and promoted new music (not freestyle). They had 70s disco and current music throughout as filler. TKA and Rob Base were a no show. C-bank was supposed to receive the award but they gave it to another artist (not saying she didn't deserve it but awards change?) Judy Torres, always phenomenal, but she should have closed the show. I've never been so disappointed in a freestyle show and I've been to many.

    Phenomenal performance

by Maggie on 10/24/23NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

This was by far the best freestyle concert that I have attended. George Lamond, Judy Torres, Noel, and the rest of the freestyle artist out did themselves at the very end of the night!! What a exceptional way to close the show.

Amazing time and never a dull moment with a freestyle concert. Love George Lamond and all the other guests who were performing. I couldn't believe I got to see Johnny O been such a long time. Absolutely loved it!!
