Gabriela Montero was AMAZING. So talented, so fluent in genre. She demonstrates both skill and style when she plays, and is personable and beautiful and has a humble demeanor. And just...so talented. It was a such a joy to watch her play.
She asks for motifs from the audience and improvises on them, creating unique masterpieces in many different styles, especially Baroque and ragtime. We heard amazing renditions of the OSU fight song, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," and two others that were equally unforgettable. She and the Promusica Chamber Orchestra performed "Rhapsody on Blue" (and many other Gershwin classics) beautifully.
You must see Gabriela Montero. This beautiful young venezuelan pianist is far beyond the limits of what we see and listen in classical music. Her signature is weel known around the world and her improvisations will keep you talking for weeks.
