About

The hit Los Angeles FOR THE RECORD series breathes a new life into the movies by adapting the works and movie soundtracks of iconic directors into a theatrical concert setting. “For The Record: Dear John Hughes” includes acclaimed coming of age 1980′s teen films Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Pretty In Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
2015 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of The Breakfast Club, the John Hughes classic which epitomizes one of the most influential pop cultural contributions of our time and changed the way many young people looked at everything from class to friendship, love to sex and fashion to music. These themes are explored throughout “For The Record Presents Dear John Hughes” by this ‘brat pack’ for the modern age that includes leading talent from stage, the recording world and screen as well as rising stars – all embodying iconic movie characters and giving them new musical voices.
The immersive concert mash-up, where iconic music and moments from the John Hughes’ movies spring to life with an epic new wave inspired soundtrack, includes songs such as Don’t You Forget About Me, We Are Not Alone, If You Leave, Pretty In Pink, If You Were Here, True as well as classic moments like Danke Shoen, Twist And Shout, Try A Little Tenderness and many more.

    Energetic and interactive 80s flashback

by MiartiniMeQuick on 3/19/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Evan Rachel Wood was mesmerizing and has a marvelous voice. She did more than karaoke and brought her own heartfelt interpretation to the songs. Ducky has charm, wit, personality, and rocked it out as the slightly sexy nerd. A fun, immersive show that puts you right in the middle of your favorite John Hughes films. My teenager hadn't seen all of them yet but still loved the show and is now working her way through the full repertoire.

We loved Dear John Hughes! The cast was entertaining, interactive with the audience and very talented. For The Record should bring their other shows (especially Baz!) to Chicago. I would be in attendance, for sure!

It was a good musical; however, if you did not see the movies you would be lost. But since I grew up with those great movies. We loved it.

Loved the music, loved the dialogue and loved the audience interaction. My only complaint, albeit minor was sometimes the lyrics were difficult to understand. This was usually when the performers we using the handheld mics.

    Surprisingly excellent!

by Blackhawk62 on 3/18/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

I had modest expectations for a show using John Hughes movies as the primary material source, but as a fan of his movies, I went. Best vocal performances I've heard in a long time, excellent stage band, and in the prefect venue (Broadway Playhouse). Great music and choreography. 80's party all the time! Just sad it was the last performance in Chicago this time -- if you like "Pretty in Pink" and "Breakfast Club" and see this show coming to your town, go!
