    A Huge Regret!

by VaShan11 on 6/4/13Military Aviation Museum - Virginia Beach

Very sad that I paid $160.00 for a nice family event (4 tickets, 2 adults and 2 children) that due to poor planning on the Museums part or the event planners part that both my husband and I and about 50 people missed the show. The food was completely inadequate for the amount of people that showed up. My husband and I waited from 6:36 to 7:52 in line for Malbons BBQ (that's another horror story, worst customer service on this planet) back to the event. Due to the waiting in line we missed sitting with our children and watching the air show. By the time we got back to our children they were starving and the air show had come to an end. My husband and I ran out to take pictures of the airplanes, bi-planes, etc and only had about 5 minutes before the gates closed. Then we had an additional wait for fireworks, thank God our children thought that was the best part of the evening. Someone needs to plan in advance for more food and more food trucks. We might be back next year but I think we'll stop and get a bite to eat elsewhere. Not worth what we paid for, sad but true

    Flying Proms Outstanding Evening!

by onehokie on 6/3/13Military Aviation Museum - Virginia Beach

Really enjoyed the performance. The aircraft were outstanding. The symphony sounded nawesome and the fireworks were great. The wine/beer line neeeds to be separated. The wine kine took forever and to just get a beer was ridiculous.

    Wonderful evening!!!

by cruiser757 on 6/3/13Military Aviation Museum - Virginia Beach

We love this event; have been going ever since it first started 3 years ago. Virginia Beach is the only place outside of England where this is preformed; flying antique aircraft to the songs of the era played by a renowned symphony orchestra. Forget paying the higher price for the card table chairs in the reserved section; get lawn seats and bring your own comfortable outdoor chairs, or a blanket on which to relax and enjoy the show. Some people bring a picnic supper; wine and beer are for sale as well as food.

This show is great, very original, relaxed atmosphere, great music and performance from the orchestra and great flying with exceptional aircraft.

Flying Proms is a Spectacular event

by morris333 on 6/3/13Military Aviation Museum - Virginia Beach

This was my third Flying Proms at the Military Air Museum. The first was such a fantastic event, I couldn't help but go again. The second one was a rain out. Last Saturday's was second only to the first one. Imagine, if you can, a full symphony orchestra playing flying movie themes, while the airplanes used in that film are flying around the event. At the end of each number, the aircraft lands and taxies right up to the seating area and at the intermission, you can walk among the various planes, have conversations with the pilots, take pictures and speak to the docents about the real wartime role of these machines was. Every now and again, a WWII vet will seek out the plane he had experiences with and tell his stories about his adventures. (This is a priceless encounter.) At the end of the music and flying, they top it off with a orchestrated fire works show. For an airplane enthusiest, this has to be close to heaven.

    flying proms

by laditk on 6/21/12Military Aviation Museum - Virginia Beach

they should have used the rain date. The planes didn't fly and couldn't hear the mc. Overall a big disappointment, especially for the price.

    And the band played on!

by 3819 on 6/12/12Military Aviation Museum - Virginia Beach

In spite of misty condtions the Va Symphony performance was outstanding. The MC with his British accent added an authentic touch. My husband, retired aviator and I were thrilled with the event. We plan to bring our grandchildren back next time to expose them to classical music in a relaxed, outdoor setting. Event could have used more food vendors.

Flying Proms 2012 - an event against the odds

by Honigsauger on 6/12/12Military Aviation Museum - Virginia Beach

We like the concept; absolutely great. It has a "touch of class" sitting on a lawnchair, enjoying music and machinery in concert. Unfortunately for this year the weather wasn't in favour of the event. Never the less, the music played and the classic aircraft were taxied out so spectators got the best doable at the time. We'll be back next year!!

    Great Music and outstanding setting.

by VFVaBeach on 6/11/12Military Aviation Museum - Virginia Beach

The terrible weather (rain and low ceiling) made a lot of people leave. The music was still very good though but only one light aircraft made it to the air. The staff offers the crowd to come back the day after to enjoy a free entrance to the museum and the air show to compensate. You really had to be equipped for bad weather to enjoy the show. The fireworks in the end was good even if they exploded in the clouds.
