Genre-spanning producer and rapper Flying Lotus has quickly become one of the most influential and innovative producers in experimental hip hop. Los Angeles-born Flying Lotus, a.k.a. Steven Ellison, hails from a long line of musicians -- his great aunt and uncle were jazz legends Alice and John Coltrane. He made his debut in 2006 with the album 1983, impressing critics with his unique IDM-meets-hip hop sound and attracting the attention of label execs at Warp Records, who signed him the following year. His popularity continued to grow with his 2008 sophomore album Los Angeles, and in 2010 he cracked the Top 20 of the independent charts with his third album Cosmogramma. By the time he began work on his fourth album Until the Quiet Comes, his reputation as a producer had attracted big-name collaborators like Thom Yorke and Erykah Badatu. Th album was a huge critical and commercial success, topping year-end lists and earning him crossover success with a Top 40 spot on the Billboard 200. Flying Lotus thrilled fans in summer of 2014 with the announcement of his fifth album You're Dead, which he'll accompany with a highly anticipated US tour.
