About

FLAMIN’ GROOVIES IN CONCERT:

Since reuniting in 2013 after more than two decades apart, the Flamin’ Groovies have burned up every stage they’ve stormed with smoking-hot performances of their pioneering brand of protopunk. Founding member Cyril Jordan and classic-era singer Chris Wilson remain as compelling as ever, tearing through kerosene-soaked rock nuggets like “Shake Some Action” and “Teenage Head” with the same fiery attitude that made the band a ‘70s rock staple. The Groovies inspired countless punk and power pop bands, and it’s easy to see why as they rip through howling classics like “Slow Death” in concert. Fans looking to relive a piece of punk rock history won’t want to miss the Flamin’ Groovies as they blaze a trail down memory lane at their rowdy, rollicking live shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The Flamin’ Groovies formed in San Francisco in 1965 amid the city’s burgeoning counterculture scene. Their 1969 debut album Supersnazz established their unique protopunk sound, combining “50s rock reworks with melodic originals that anticipated the power pop movement of the ‘70s. In 1971 they released Teenage Head, a seminal album that drew praise from critics and fellow musicians alike – Mick Jagger reportedly stated that the Groovies did a better job of updating classic blues rock than The Rolling Stones. They scored another benchmark album in 1976 with Shake Some Action, a commercial success that earned them their first appearance on the charts. They released two more popular albums in the late ‘70s, but by the ‘80s their output had become sporadic. They officially disbanded in 1992, reuniting several times over the years for one-off shows, but officially got back together in 2013 for a series of performances in Australia. Since then they’ve continued to tear it up on tour, delivering powerhouse performances that have fans dying for another studio album from the veteran rockers.
