About

The year 2013 was a back-to-basics year for John Ondrasik, better known by his stage name, Five for Fighting, as he reunited with longtime producer Gregg Wattenberg and released "Bookmarks," his first album in four years. The lead single, "What If," marked a return to the formula that made earlier hits, "Superman" and "100 Years," so memorable. Never reliant on studio trickery, Five for Fighting in concert are just as moving, with an experienced backing band and Ondrasik at the piano, singing in his trademark falsetto. Ticket buyers looking for a little loudness in their rock won't be disappointed, either, as Five for Fighting supply the occasional rock anthem in their repertoire as well. Ultimately, whether he's playing loud or soft, Ondrasik's shows are about intimacy and connecting with each individual. In that sense, they're a natural extension of "Bookmarks," connecting with listeners on his long-explored themes of love and reflection.

Ondrasik started Five for Fighting after trying opera singing in college and graduating with a degree in applied science and mathematics. Wisely choosing the singer/songwriter route, he released his debut album, "Message for Albert," in 1997 and followed up with the album that established him as a force in the industry, 2000's "America Town" and what became a sort of anthem in the wake of 9/11 -- "Superman (It's Not Easy)." He confirmed that success three years later with "The Battle of Everything" and the chart-topping single, "100 Years." Since then, philanthropy has been an increasing part of his activities, most notably with his "CD for the Troops" project, and he's also dabbled in sports writing and public speaking. Though he's scaled back his touring in recent years, music is still his first love, and as the lyrical spectrum of "Bookmarks" shows, the yearning for connection is still there.

    Like Fine Wine

    by Gary B on 9/27/23

My wife and I saw FFF at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on September 9, 2023. To say the performance was fabulous would be a gross understatement. The 900-seat venue is perfectly suited. John Ondrasik made us feel like he was sitting in our living room delivering a private concert for our family and a few friends. We saw FFF at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles, in April of 2007. He was unbelievable then and he is unbelievable now. We love his stage presence and the way he explains the meanings and inspiration for his songs. John's voice hasn't changed a bit. We drove down from Bakersfield and only wish he'd schedule a performance here.

    Amazing!

One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. The passion these artists have for their craft really shone through. Funny, heartwarming, entertaining, beautiful. Also so special in the smaller venue. Really unique concert experience. Would give more stars if I could. Must see!

Great music in a wonderful venue

by Gary on 9/18/23Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

The quality of the music and performance was top notch - actually better than we had expected. John did a wonderful job of entertaining with story and music. The string accompaniment made this feel like a studio session.

What an amazing concert! I loved the stories that John told and that videos were added to enhance the experience. As always, the music was remarkable. Uptown Theater is also a fantastic venue. Five for Fighting's music and lyrics are so meaningful. I highly recommend that everyone see at least one show,

    Amazing voice!

by Nickandviv on 9/17/23Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

Amazing singer! This was the third time we saw him perform live. Last couple times, we drove all the way out to Moorpark and the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. I was thrilled when I found out about the Napa show. His voice always sounded better than the recording. This is the one thing I love about live concerts - plus you get a more intimate experience at smaller venues.

    Mixed Feelings

by JD on 9/12/23Scherr Forum- B of A Performing Arts Center, Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

During the concert, 9-11 was brought up, the war in Ukraine, his project Wounded Warriors, and some NASA Space stuff. Not my cup of tea to hear about any of this at a concert. I found the banter was boring and depressing, esp. the video of bombed out Kviv. The baseball banter was okay and we liked the baseball song/video. The best part of the concert was the segment the quartet played alone and a musical medley with video slides portraying J.O.s life including that he sang opera at one point. And of course, his usual hit songs were great. My partner and I both noticed J.O. seemed shakey/nervous and we wondered if maybe he wasn't feeling well. Perhaps that was part of it. We all have our good and bad days.
