Fisk Jubilee Singers - Best Concert I’ve been to in YEARS

by Fisk Fan on 11/16/21Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

An incredible concert. Only disappointed that the Ryman/Ticketmaster did not do a better job promoting the show and that there were a lot of seats empty. I receive ‘upcoming show’ emails almost weekly from the Ryman where they list featured concerts. Not once did they feature the Fisk Jubilee Singers concert; just the typical run of the mill shows. Our local promoters need to do a better job of embracing and uplifting Fisk University and the Jubilee Singers so that locals are made aware of this great and deserving group.

    Fabulous music

by Janette on 11/14/21Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

My friend and I visited the 150th Celebration Event on Nov. 11. I loved the beginning where the singers portrayed the original students/singers. Very powerful stories and so inspiring. The music was amazing and learning about the teacher and his influences on so many Fisk Students was moving. Well done. Suggestion - put some cushions on those benches.

    FJS

by Bizza on 11/14/21Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

The first half of the show, with just the singers was excellent I thought. Great voices, beautiful acapella. The sound and staging just perfect. The second half was not as compelling. The mayor spoke too long and the video tribute to the choirmaster was overdone. The guitarist who played Hendrix and the singer who did " A Change Is Gonna Come" were very fine. All in all a very good show, with many high points.

    Fantastic Experience

by JimG on 11/14/21Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

I enjoyed the Fisk Jubilee Singers very much. Part I "The Original Jubilees Come to Life" featured all the sacred songs from the original group, and the singers each performed a script to bring to life the original members and their history. Dr. Paul Kwami wrote the script for this part. Part II "Guest Artists & The 2021/2022 Fisk Jubilee Singers" covered an introduction to a wide genre of music; blues, country, hip hop, rock, gospel...you name it. Each artist was backed by the full coral group which gave a huge depth and perspective to each type of music. The final rendition of Respect by Kyla Jade filled the Ryman with enormous energy and excitement with the audience. I highly recommend the Fisk Jubilee Singers at their next performance in the future. While the members change year to year, two things are unchanged; the history and the talent. Hopefully, Dr. Kwami will be the director for many more years to come. The Fisk Jubilee Singers brought the name "Music City" to Nashville, and are at the very heart of what Nashville is today.

    The Jubilee singers

by Alwayslost on 11/14/21Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

I was a little disappointed that there was not more focus on the singers. Would have loved more songs strictly by the Jubilee Singers and less focus on everyone else. Was counting on more of a Fisk Jubilee Singers concert.

Living History, but it was fun!

by Tbones on 3/17/20Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

The Fisk Jubilee Singers are the reason Music City is known as Music City. This concert opened with the Jubilee Singers doing a set of spirituals on their own, then it just got more and more better. The singers do great on their own but Ledisi and the gentleman who performed just before her are exceptionally talented and engaging.
