Fanatastic music. Fernando included a beautiful mix of his old and new work. He entertained in his usual self-effacing way. Made for a very entertaining night.

    A must see!!!!

by chica22 on 8/29/11Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church - Elmhurst

Fernando Ortega is one of the best Christian music artists out there. His music is touching and so great. He is a wonderfully gifted performer and he has a fantastic sense of humor! He kept the crowd laughing the whole night in-between sets an he had his cello player with him as well, which added to the sound beautifully. I have bought tickets to see him everytime he comes to Chicago and he never disappoints!! I love him and he is so great!

Fernando Ortega turned us toward the living God

by MacPhie on 8/29/11Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church - Elmhurst

We have been listening to Fernando Ortega's music since the early 1990s when my spouse discovered via Moody Bible Radio Ortega's version of the Latin American hymn 'O What Shall I Render?' (?Con Qu<'>e Pagaremos?). About February 2000 we heard him perform live for the first time at Harvest Bible Church near O'Hare Airport. His concert on Friday, 26 August, 2011 at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church convinced me again that Ortega is one of America's finest worship leaders via his preference for venerable hymns & spiritual songs that many congregations no longer sing. There is an understated simplicity to Ortega's interpretation of these beautiful hymns that brings audiences into God's presence. I noticed men around me quietly weeping as he sang the African American spiritual composed during the era of African slavery in America, 'Give Me Jesus.' His autobiographical stories between the hymns & his own original songs introduced us to his grandparents who were farmers in New Mexico, his spiritual journey from the Presbyterian Church to the Anglican Communion, & he and his spouse's joy at the birth of their first child, Ruby. Unlike some other popular Christian & secular musicians, Ortega celebrates the Giver of all good & perfect gifts, not himself. His humility & piety are so genuine in his approach to sacred music and his audience that one could not resist becoming 'lost in wonder, love, and praise.' I encourage anyone who needs to find some hope in the midst of the international & national crises of 2011 to listen to Fernando Ortega's understated, compelling, 'in-Spiriting' interpretation of some of the Church's most beautiful songs of praise and lament.

    Fernado at Elmhurst,Il

by esmit2 on 8/28/11Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church - Elmhurst

I have listen to Fernado's music for years, watch a videos and did not connect with him as I did at this concert. He is really a grounded Christian, and can really connect with his audience. His mussing were right on target, and I felt his love of Jesus and his family throughout the concert. I had a chance to watch him warm up before the show and there is no doubt of his love for Jesus and his dedication to the Lord. His accompanist really adds a musical touch to Fernado's piano that elevations the sound's clarity and brilliance like a small orchectra would.

    Nobody Sleepin' Here...

by NatalieSmiles on 8/28/11Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church - Elmhurst

Fernando just keeps better and better with age -- like a fine old bottle of wine. He sang to us and to the Lord with all his heart, and his piano stylings are even more soothing than ever. We all loved the new songs and never get tired of the old songs -- like friends, gold and silver. Blessings on Fernando always!
