Great show. Left filling uplifted . Could not buy CD's. Sad!!!
Fernando De La Mora was great. Tremendous voice...but the tickets were extremely overpriced. Half of the show was youth dance and mariachi groups. They were good, but not worth the price paid. Charge accordingly.
Absolutely a five star event! This entire event was, once again, excellently planned and excellently executed! All the performances were magnificent, from our local dancers Los Lupenos and San Jose's own Mariachi Azteca to the program headliners, Mariachi Sol and tenor Fernando de la Mora. Mariachi Sol was most impressive; the singers are absolutely first rate, as are their musicians. Fernando de la Mora was most engaging, he had us all singing along with him as he sang some of Mexico's most unforgettable melodies, from Mexican female composers (Maria Grever and Consuelo Velasquez) as well as Jose Alfredo Jimenez and Juan Gabriel. It was SO heartwarming and it gave us all such pride to see our local artists so prominently featured. Los Lupenos was wonderfully showcased, as was Mariachi Azteca. It was also wonderful to see the Silicon Valley Symphony represent!! Ms. Aviles is to be congratulated for her leadership in orchestrating and for facilitating these great spectacles. Can't wait to see what the Mexican Heritage folks come up with for next year! Thank you, all!!
Well, since you asked, I'll tell you: I am a musician and i went to hear music. There was good music, but with all the people walking constantly back and forth, it was more like being at some sort of outing rather than a "concert". The performers were excellent...all well trained musicians, not your usual pick-up amateur mariachi, and the star, de la Mora, has a beautiful voice and was headlined as an opera singer. I realize that this was more a folk festival, but as he was announced as excelling in opera it would have been nice to hear at least one opera aria. Th second group of performers were sensatiional. (I don't give "stars", as the performers were wonderful but the audience wasn't!)
