FENCES IN CONCERT:
With his head-to-toe tattoos and cool Pacific Northwest attitude, Fences, a.k.a. Christopher Mansfield, is the kind of performer you can't peel your eyes from. Mansfield is a raw, honest lyricist who takes tales about tortured love and turns them into catchy emo-tinged anthems and down-tempo ballads. In concert he's joined by a backing band comprised of guitarist and keyboardist Ben Greenspan, bassist Lindsey Starr, and drummer Elliot Garm Chaggee. Together the quartet combines the honesty of folk music and the catchiness of pop to deliver stunning shows that leave ticket buyers begging for more.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Fences is the moniker of Seattle-based singer-songwriter Christopher Mansfield, a Berklee College of Music graduate who has taken the indie rock scene by storm. After releasing his 2009 debut EP Ultimate Puke he was discovered on Myspace by Sara Quin, one-half of the popular indie sister act Tegan & Sara. Quin offered to produce his debut album, 2010's Fences, which garnered rave reviews and landed spots on several year-end lists including SPIN Magazine's Top 10 Albums You May Have Missed. In 2010 and 2011 Mansfield toured with punk rockers Against Me! and indie pop group Hellogoodbye, and began collaborating with fellow Seattle musicians Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Mansfield was featured on the duo's 2011 track "Otherside Remix" and co-wrote a song for their Grammy-winning album The Heist. He inked a deal with Elecktra Records in 2013 and released the hit single "Arrows", which features a verse by Macklemore and reached No. 1 on Billboard's Emerging Artists chart. With his much-anticipated sophomore album Lesser Oceans already generating buzz, Fences has fans chomping at the bit to catch him live in concert.
This was my first time in new York. The mercury lounge has an awesome atmosphere and Fences made it 1000 times better! Great band. The opener the rassle was also amazing. Best concert experience in awhile!
fences was epic, played pretty much every song on the album and a couple from the ep. chatted with chris a little before the show, such a nice down to earth guy. he could propose any time now.
