About

FATHER JOHN MISTY IN CONCERT:

Father John Misty brings folk into the 21st century with each eclectic element he incorporates into his unique sound, and his charismatic showmanship makes his live shows a must-see. When he's strumming his way through ballads like ìThe Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apartmentî his emotional vocals and heartbreaking lyrics make alt-country fans feel right at home. But heís just as comfortable strutting his stuff to noisy, spiteful rockers like ìThe Ideal Husbandî and turning out full-blown electronica on tracks like the transcendently beautiful ìTrue Affectionî. With his singular combination of Americana traditions with cutting-edge sounds, Father John Misty is a folk icon for a new generation, and fans won't want to miss the chance to see him conjure up his immersive sound in concert.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Before making his debut as Father John Misty in 2012, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Tillman was busy recording late-night demos in the Seattle-area. After self-releasing two CD-R demos he attracted the attention of Fargo Records, and in 2006 the label released his debut album Minor Works. In 2008 Tillman was tapped by indie darlings Fleet Foxes, who needed a drummer for the recording of their self-titled debut. Though he gained widespread exposure and success with Fleet Foxes, Tillman left to pursue his creative reinvention as Father John Misty in 2012. After a warm reception from critics and fans for his debut album Fear Fun, he set out on his first solo headlining tour. His 2015 follow-up album I Love You, Honeybear was a breakthrough success, appearing on best-of lists from esteemed sources like Pitchfork, Roughtrade, and Stereogum. As he continues to breathe new life into indie folk with his wide-ranging influences and poetic gifts, Father John Mistyís electrifying performances have fans eagerly anticipating whatís next from the innovative troubadour.

    Library Magic//Sylvee Magic

    by Kaywoody on 8/31/23

What a fun night!! Two amazing artists performed in a cool and intimate venue. My first time at the Sylvee. Both artists were so amazing. The head and the heart played my song, Library Magic :) Father John Misty played Mr. Tillman and Nancy from now on so I was one happy girl! Went with a cute boy and friends :) my only complaint is that the bar didn’t have custom Sylvee napkins, just plain ones. I won a free guitar!

Father John Misty was amazing. So in tune with the crowd, and it was his birthday. The sound was amazing. Gave so many encores I lost count. The Ideal Husband rocked. Such a legend.

    Great Show

    by S. M. on 5/9/23The Lyric Theatre - Birmingham

The band was great. There were about nine musicians and they were all so good ! Some of the best songs were when FJM and the piano player were by themselves. I only knew of his songs from You Tube but after that fantastic show I am a big fan. For his encore he did about 5 songs. GREAT SHOW

    Great Show!

by KristenB on 5/8/23The Lyric Theatre - Birmingham

Had a blast at this concert! The venue was perfect. A lot of bands (but not all), when they stop in Birmingham, put on really short shows, just to say they came to Alabama. But, Father John Misty put on an amazing show! How someone can be so spot on and introspective, and such a performer at the same time is completely beyond me, but we’re so incredibly grateful for you and your music!! Please come back when you’re able!!

Killer show in a beautiful venue

by Jim on 5/8/23The Lyric Theatre - Birmingham

Father John Misty's show at the Lyric Theater was my 3rd time seeing him in concert. His shows never disappoint and this one was no exception. Beginning with the excellent opener, Butch Bastard, who was joined on drums by Josh for the last couple of numbers, and continuing on through FJM's set the show had energy, empathy, and humanity. In addition to the amazing songs, one of the highlights of a FJM concert is Josh's interaction with the crowd. Friday night was probably the most interaction I've witnessed Josh having with a FJM crowd. He even stayed onstage after the houselights came on following the encore and talked to the crowd. His band and his voice were in top form. The theater was beautiful, and the staff there were very helpful. The entire evening was amazing and I'm very happy I went to the show.

    Fantastic live show

by Sean R. on 5/7/23Mercury Ballroom - Louisville

Thought FJM was so good when I saw him in October, but he was amazing in a smaller venue, more deep cuts. He played a song twice because he didn’t think it was good enough. Fantastic singer songwriter of this generation. Crowd great mix of young and older fans.

Artist put on a great show, venue, hard pass

by Fortheloveofmusic on 5/7/23Mercury Ballroom - Louisville

Venue is just not up to par for an act this talented. Speakers popped and were fuzzy, bartenders couldn’t make a decent cocktail. No mocktail menu.. In order to upgrade to seating upstairs you had to arrive at opening and pay an extra $50. Cashless venue. Will not be back.
