About

Emarosa In Concert

Good luck trying to pin down exactly how to categorize Emarosa. Since forming in 2006, the Lexington, Kentucky-based sonic chameleons have evolved from post-hardcore-leaning metalcore aficionados into a sleek, soulful pop-rock band with designs on the Top 40. It's not the usual path for a band versatile enough to open for A Day to Remember and PVRIS but, then again, Emarosa has endured by being accepting of change.

The band's first three albums, starting with 2008's Relativity, appeared via Rise Records. Beginning with 2016's 131, Emarosa has linked up with Hopeless Records. This label shift also signaled a creative leap: 2019's Peach Club kicks off with "Givin' Up" a strutting mainstream pop song with a warm chorus falsetto and an R&B/funk vibe and "Don't Cry," a slice of retro electro-rock.

Perhaps even more notably, Emarosa has weathered multiple lineup shifts over the years, with lead guitarist ER White being the sole original founding member still on board. Of the alums, 2007-2011 vocalist Jonny Craig known for his tenure in Dance Gavin Dance and Slaves and touring live guest vocalist Tilian Pearson are perhaps Emarosa's most famous former members. Emarosa is good at recruiting high-profile members, too. In 2014, ex-This Or the Apocalypse guitarist Matthew Marcellus joined the lineup.

Live, Emarosa incredibly handles all sides of their sound, with the pop-oriented material inciting mass pogos and the heavier side coming across as appropriately gruff and menacing. The former represents where the band shines, since their more light-hearted instrumental vibe lets Emarosa loosen up and have fun. As the group continues to move forward and gain momentum with Peach Club and points beyond, maintaining this spirit of levity and contentment will go a long way toward keeping Emarosa in the spotlight yet grounded in musical reality.

    Great showing!

    by Joc Q. B. on 10/18/23

I was present for the 2023 Underground Arts concert and surprisingly he sounded even better in person. Great sense of humor and play played a fantastic selection from “Don’t Cry” to “Cautious” from Peach club. I certainly recommend them if you’re a fan of 2+ songs

    A Kinetic Experience

by Reece on 12/13/19The Foundry - Philadelphia

The Fillmore was an excellent venue and Philly really showed out. Emarosa played all of Peach Club and bangers off of 131 and Versus. Their engagement with the crowd and unparalleled with any other live act I’ve seen. Additionally, Vaines and TCTC were amazing openers. Vaines in particular was a stand out as most of us didn’t know him and this was his first tour. I’m really excited to see all of these guys back in Philly!

There were around 4 bands that went before Emarosa and they were all pretty good. But EMAROSA came to steal the show!!!! Place was kinda small but perfect! Sound and lighting went perfect and made that night unforgettable. Emarosa is my favorite band and this was my first ever concert.

    Fantastic Show

by DoctaGiggles on 11/13/16Masquerade - Atlanta

The show was totally amazing. The entire band was completely elated to be performing, and they put on a great show. The band was very tight, and sounded fantastic. The singer crowd-surfed more than 10 times, climbed on the shoulders of the guitarist and jumped into the crowd, and crowd surfed with a drum as well. It was awesome. I would absolutely recommend anyone to go see Emarosa. You will not be disappointed.

    Awesome show!

by punkrocksax on 3/7/11Rex Theatre - Pittsburgh

All 5 bands that played this show played great sets. Maesion did a great job opening up and Decoder played a great set to follow. Go Radio was a lot heavier live, or at least it sounded heavier, considering i was so close i was literally touching the stage. Emarosa, of course without their frontman, Jonny Craig, played a shortened set with the help of Tilian Pearson (former Tides of Man) and I have to say Tilian did a great job filling in. He killed it. Chiodos finished out the night with an awesome set and it was my first time seeing them live since Brandon took over but it was awesome. I was right in front of guitarist Pat McManaman and he absolutely shredded. All in all, I had to knock off a star for the shorter set by Emarosa and the lame crowd. The venue was only about half full and the crowd brought it down a bit. Not to take away from the bands, of course, but the energy wasn't there.

i saw them on the AP tour this fall when they came to toronto, and they should have headlined for sure, they were the best act there. Jonny's voice sounded even better than on the album. the crowd was pumped, and the entire band played crazy. it was definitly the best act there, and on the top 3 of the best bands ive seen live. If you havent seen this band yet, go and see them when they come to your city next!
