Her acting career in television included roles in several successful sitcoms before being offered a part on "These Friends of Mine" by ABC. Following the first season, the show was renamed "Ellen." The first initiative of the fund is to build The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. The campus will permanently secure the future of wild gorillas in Rwanda by building on successful field conservation efforts, while empowering the people living near the gorillas to thrive in relationship to their own ecosystem. This project gives Ellen the opportunity to carry on the legacy of her hero, visionary scientist Dian Fossey, joining her as a protector and champion of the critically endangered mountain gorilla. DeGeneres has also brought awareness to the anti-bullying issue by creating a PSA titled, "Be Kind." Overall, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" has raised over $50 million for various causes, including global warming and breast cancer awareness.

    Very Disappointed

I’m from Montreal and expected more then just somebody explaining how they started to be a star when you can google it all. I was expecting something funny like her show.

Goodness exemplified - thank God it's contagious!

by JB in SoFla on 2/2/20

If you are attending an Ellen show you are ahead in humanity in the first place; you recognize the impact of goodness, giving and kindness. The reward is UNBELIEVABLE! Ellen is a fantastic comedian and a magnificent person. The show is not a stand-up show (although there were plenty of funny moments). It is an authentic conversation and insight into one of the most open, gracious and genuine people; she is willing to share herself and continues to make an impact DAILY to people's lives, our environment and bring awareness of being a good human because it is her fabric - and you can soak it in in person. To be in a venue surrounded by like-minded people, to be privy to "a conversation" between Ellen DeGeneres and David Kelly that touches on the struggles she embraced and openly lived through, the acknowledgment of current events, and the stumbles and successes is a gift. Truly. And, a gift that she pays forward in multitude. Current events in this conversation were not political or framed in drama, but touched on real emotions, unacceptance, hurt feelings, the brevity of life, acceptance, goodness, the wonderful recognition of making a difference and the feelings and impact we leave on people and the world. If you are fortunate enough to attend, or, even more so, to bring someone with you, know that the take-away from the time spent covers you like a coat. I think everyone left the South Florida show with the warmness felt when a true friend hugs you. The world is a better place because there are people, like Ellen, who choose positivity and intention and that recognize it in others. The experience of hearing it first hand is better than any tangible object you can purchase.

    Disappointed

    by FloridaGirl on 2/2/20

We went to see Ellen and the new Hard Rock Guitar Hotel. The line to get in was longer then Ellen was on stage. This year I was blessed to see Oprah and Ellen within weeks of each Other. Ellen was completely opposite of Oprah. She was super scripted. Everything she spoke about was stuff we already know. Nothing was new or exciting. I honestly don’t understand the point of this tour. She was on stage maybe an hour. I definitely was expecting so much more. The only fun part of the day was the venue. The new Hard Rock Hotel is awesome.

    A Conversation W Ellen DeGeneres

by Ken on 3/7/19Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

I personally really enjoyed this experience. Being a huge Ellen fan I was beyond excited to be in the same room as her. She is such a kind and charming individual. The venue was full of kindness and positive energy. I was hoping they would sell merchandise but unfortunately they didn’t, overall I would recommend this to any Ellen fan or to anyone who might be going through a difficult time and needs some form of escapism. I LOVE YOU ELLEN!!

    Good, just not what expected

by Mo on 3/6/19Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

At the end of the day seeing Ellen in person was a once of a lifetime opportunity. She’s an amazing woman and her story is inspiring, so overall the show was a good one. However when you think of Ellen you think of fun, upbeat, lots of dancing - and all of that stuff was absent. The host was very melo, would’ve liked more from him. Not to mention the entire time the microphones had the most distracting echo ever that was very annoying.

    Love Ellen, but shameful ripoff!!!

    by NotEasilyUpsetGuy on 10/24/18Vancouver

So, first, to put things in perspective, I have more than 20 years of experience working in the entertainment industry, with events like this, pro sports and more. I'd like to think that my experiences make this review fair and forthright. I've also NEVER written a review publicly about anything and would like to think that much like Ellen, I put kindness first and recognize how fortunate we are, overall, when looking at the world around us. With that said, I have never felt so disappointed and flat out ripped off before......EVER! I find it hard to swallow the presentation we all paid significantly for when the person you go to see is basically sitting there, simply answering questions to things everyone knows, and there is no other interaction of any kind, no apparent enthusiasm to be there.....for barely 1 hour of time on stage. The sponsors spent nearly as much time as the star to give speeches (which I'm sure most people didn't pay to hear), then there was an opening music act for almost 40 minutes (and no offence, but again, not what people went to see), and then the star attraction.......for 1 hour. The whole night was less than 2 hours total, literally half of which was speeches and opening entertainment. Considering the amount of times Vancouver would ever get to see some people, in person, frankly, as much as I love Ellen and what she seems to stand for, this was nothing short of a complete ripoff and I will be seeking a refund,.....especially since, apparently, the sponsors are happy to tell us that they have money to burn, hand over fist. But we knew that too, so we didn't pay our hard earned cash to hear it again for almost half the night and get the star for 1 hour of lacklustre entertainment or value. Sorry Ellen.........kinda shocked and disappointed you'd let this happen!

Ellen was amazing, but moderator was iffy

by ohgilvie on 10/22/18Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Ellen was absolutely incredible! She was candid and funny as always! No complaints with her! Though, the moderator wasn’t so great. Some of the questions asked seemed like he didn’t do his research despite being an interviewer and you could tell it was hella awkward for Ellen! The last ten minutes was a tangent of him asking a “question” for his daughter but it really didn’t make any sense! No actual question was asked, it was more of a statement and everyone was confused... Other than that, we had a great time!

I guess I was hoping for more :(

    by VickyT68 on 10/22/18Rogers Arena - Vancouver

We were disappointed, even though the 'Program' was exactly as advertised ...."A conversation with Ellen" There was a whole lot of hype and patting themselves on the back from the sponsors/presenters...TELUS & TD Bank, as well as the Vancouver Board of Trade. Seemed like a giant platform to showcase their public / corporate / social / community accountabilities to a very captive audience who paid premium dollars to experience ELLEN. There was an opening musical act to bring the energy up (and add time /value to our ticket price)....they too were a major disappointment ~ not at all what I would've thought Ellen would choose....painful really. The moderator for the Q&A was very good...his laugh & facial expressions were more entertaining than anything Ellen did. And finally, there was NO Ellen merchandise...No tee's, no overpriced souvenirs....
