About

ELIZABETH & THE CATAPULT IN CONCERT:

Brooklyn-based indie outfit Elizabeth & The Catapult serve up a delectable brand of chamber pop brimming with jazz and folk influences. At their live shows the group's hushed, intimate arrangements let frontwoman Elizabeth Ziman's emotive pipes really shine, and her passionate voice and world-wise lyrics never fail to move fans. Whether she's lending her lush pipes to the '60s rock tune "Shoelaces" or the introspective "Worn Out Tune", Ziman wows with dynamic performances that shift effortlessly from casual to operatic and back again. With their catchy tunes, virtuosic musicianship, and playful onstage energy, Elizabeth & The Catapult always leave ticket buyers thoroughly smitten.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Indie pop outfit Elizabeth & The Catapult is the brainchild of Elizabeth Ziman, who trained to be a classical pianist while growing up in New York's Greenwich Village. She went on to study composition at Berklee College of Music with the goal of becoming a film composer. During her studies she performed as a backing singer on Patti Austin's Ella Fitzgerald tribute tour, where she picked up jazz vocal experience that has served her well ever since. After graduating in 2005 Ziman moved to Brooklyn with Berklee classmates Dan Molad (drums) and Pete Lalish (guitar), and in 2006 the trio made their debut as Elizabeth & The Catapult with a self-titled EP. The record earned them a deal with Verve Records, and in 2009 they released the album Taller Children on the label, following up in 2010 with the Leonard Cohen-inspired album The Other Side of Zero. They spent the next couple of years touring with acts like Lenka, Sara Bareilles, and Greg Laswell before taking a hiatus after Lalish's departure. Ziman reemerged in 2014 with a rotating cast of backing musicians and released her third album, Like It Never Happened.

by ktwillis13 on 5/23/15Mercury Lounge - New York

This show was beautiful. Elizabeth is unforgettable, a voice that makes everything sound beautiful, and music that makes the heart stop...and then beat more powerfully. The Spring Standards are pure joy. So much fun to be in the room with them. So Simple So True was a Moment. Thank you for sharing your music! What a gift!

Elizabeth and the Catapult never disappoints!

by EllenClare on 1/27/14Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Whether is is Rockwood, the Wolf Den, or Brighton Music Hall, Elizabeth Ziman proves her talent is without a doubt real. Each time I see her perform, I leave in a state of awe. If only there was an ounce of her talent present on the radio the world would be a better place. I highly recommend seeing her perform live at least once in your lifetime.
