    Pleasantly surprised.

by unreceivedogma on 9/30/23Ulster Performing Arts Center - Kingston

I was gonna skip this figuring the guys just ain’t what they used to be, but changed my mind at the last minute as it may be the last chance to ever see them. Well, I’m glad I changed my mind, they were in great form! Most shows last 85-90 minutes these days. For these guys. 80 minutes was intermission! They came out for another full 80 minute set without slowing down! The show started at 7:30, wrapped at shortly after 10:30! This from a couple of 80 year olds! It was amazing.

    It was ok...

by Richard on 9/25/23Ulster Performing Arts Center - Kingston

I am very familiar with the theater, been going there since I was a kid. The speaker arrays (not sure if they are permanent) let the music come through but the vocals were muddy and difficult to interpret. The words are the best part of Jorma and Jack's songs. The music is as good as ever and they are really true legends and I have been listening to them since the first album they were on with Jefferson Airplane. This used to be Jorma's home county and I thought it was a good idea to have Levon Helm's sitin drummer, and audio engineer with them and the horn player was not as much of a distraction as I had thought. He is really good.

    Final Tour Indeed

by Tramp Steamer on 9/25/23Ulster Performing Arts Center - Kingston

This seemed a very personal show especially for Jorma. There was a lot of reminiscing but not musically, which stayed firmly 21st Century. Last I saw him solo winter 1981 with a bottle of beer next to his chair, he was blonde. Now he stood up white, slightly bent over, still mechanically perfect, with good humor and enough in the tank to belt out a 2-hr jam session. Jack Casady plinked some jumping notes from his self-designed semi hollow bass. The horns and the drums were excellent.

    Hot Tuna still sizzling

by JR on 9/25/23Ulster Performing Arts Center - Kingston

I've seen Hot Tuna quite a few times over the years and this was one of the best shows I've ever seen I was afraid that they're retiring from electric touring because their playing was not what is used to be, but to the contrary, they really are still at the top of their game. This lineup was absolutely cooking., with Justin Guip on drums perfectly complementing Jorma and Jack's playing and Steve Bernstein shredding on various horns. I fervently hope that Jorma and Jack reconsider their decision to hang up their amps.

Hot Tuna... a dish best served "old"?

by guitar george on 9/24/23Ulster Performing Arts Center - Kingston

Bottom line, they were great ! Jorma and Jack were an amazing rhythm section and their decades of playing together more than supercedes the test of time. Jorma was in good voice and the locals they added (drummer and horn player extraordinaire) made this an incredible performance. At times I thought I was listening to the Tomasz Stanko jazz group. What?? Not what I expected, but what a ride. See and hear them if you can !

~This was a spectacular show and just absolutely thick in the psychedelic sauce that Hot Tuna was birthed from. Amazing!!!! To say the least. 😊🙏~

Tuna Mason proves what pros sound like

by FrankD on 8/30/19Warner Theatre - Washington

Dave Mason provides a complete rock guitarist band show, creative arrangements with seasoned serious gang of players, including tight lighting dynamics. Felt like a pick drop challenge to Jorma and Jack, who don’t need challenge to rise to electrically charged proficiency. Tuna and Traffic fan since 1974, it was premium professional music evening. No one went home wanting. See them when you can .

    Super show

by Bobk on 8/29/19Warner Theatre - Washington

Hot tuna never disappoints. Beautiful venue with easy access from the metro. Overall n excellent show . Jack was outstanding in the bass with several solos. Jorma with his reverse firebird gave us all a lesson on real jamming !
