The art pop goddess's look is as stylish as her edgy sound, and she commands the stage at her live shows with an effortless cool that's both mesmerizing and engaging. BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Eleanor Friedberger and her older brother Matthew first rose to indie rock stardom in the early '00s as The Fiery Furnaces, an indie rock outfit they formed in Brooklyn in 2000. After signing to Rough Trade in 2002, the siblings released their 2003 debut album Gallowsbird's Bark to widespread acclaim. The following year they released their sophomore album Blueberry Boat, an ambitious and widely buzzed-about concept album that galvanized critics and landed on numerous year-end lists. Six more well-received albums followed between 2004-2009 before the Friedbergers put The Fiery Furnaces on hiatus in order to pursue solo careers. Eleanor made her debut that same year with the album Last Summer, a lushly produced collection of creatively arranged pop nuggets that earned stellar reviews.  Following extensive touring in support of the release, she returned to the studio to record sophomore album Personal Record, which she co-wrote with folk singer John Wesley Harding. The album was a critical success, earning praise for its nuanced songwriting and genuine vocal delivery. Since then Friedberger has continued to enthrall audiences while on tour with career-spanning performances that highlight her staggering creative range and dynamic stage presence.

    Effortlessly Cool Eleanor

by Anonymous on 2/23/16Bearsville Theater - Woodstock

I've been an Eleanor fan since college, when I discovered the Fiery Furnaces. I took a friend with me on a little road trip from Pennsylvania to see Eleanor play in Woodstock. We were impressed by the venue and how laid back the whole atmosphere was. She played for about an hour and sang all of the songs from her new album, New View. Excellent voice, and as I said in the title of my review, she is just effortlessly cool. I think the whole audience could have listened to her play all night! I know I could have.

Eleanor: one of the world's 5 coolest people

by UhHuhRoger on 5/6/15Rough Trade NYC - Brooklyn

Under a full moon in Scorpio, Virgo Eleanor Friedberger and her charming band played new songs and songs a few years old that already feel perfectly classic. A thrilling treat to see her again and so generous to share new songs on a record I hope to hear this summer. An impossibly cool human.
