BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Eleanor Friedberger and her older brother Matthew first rose to indie rock stardom in the early '00s as The Fiery Furnaces, an indie rock outfit they formed in Brooklyn in 2000. After signing to Rough Trade in 2002, the siblings released their 2003 debut album Gallowsbird's Bark to widespread acclaim. The following year they released their sophomore album Blueberry Boat, an ambitious and widely buzzed-about concept album that galvanized critics and landed on numerous year-end lists. Six more well-received albums followed between 2004-2009 before the Friedbergers put The Fiery Furnaces on hiatus in order to pursue solo careers. Eleanor made her debut that same year with the album Last Summer, a lushly produced collection of creatively arranged pop nuggets that earned stellar reviews. Following extensive touring in support of the release, she returned to the studio to record sophomore album Personal Record, which she co-wrote with folk singer John Wesley Harding. The album was a critical success, earning praise for its nuanced songwriting and genuine vocal delivery.
