    Great but room for growth

by Ollie on 9/19/23McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

I love the opera but having a wide variety of ages for singers would be ideal. It makes no sense having a well aged women in her 60s playing a 12 year old boy.

    La Traviata

by Ib on 6/6/23Abraham Chavez Theatre - El Paso

It was an amazing production very impressive! The only negative comment is with the venue very slow processing time to enter so began late. Bathrooms were clogged up and not enough for the time they gave us for intermission. The seats are very dated and uncomfortable and there are only entrance from outer doors no way to enter thru a middle section which would make it easier to get in and out. Also not enough workers to man doors once the Opera began ppl were still coming in disrupting everyone.

    An enjoyable Opera;

by M. C. on 6/6/23Abraham Chavez Theatre - El Paso

We really enjoyed the opera ; a little long but worth it ; Marlen Nahas ; obviously a seasoned singer ; a piercing voice; she could be heard as far as El Paso Street.

    Wonderful Experience

by MelB on 6/6/23Abraham Chavez Theatre - El Paso

This was my first Opera here, and, other than wanting a nice evening out, I went without any expectations for it. However, I was amazed at how much I loved the experience! It was a much more relaxed atmosphere than I have been in before, but that made it unique and made it stand out. The translations into English above the stage were a nice way to ensure that it was understandable for more people. The cast did a wonderful job and the stage settings weren’t so elaborate that they took away from the performers. The only things that I would suggest that needed improvement was, firstly, the fact that there were a number of people in the audience with little or no respect for other members of the audience nor the performance. At the beginning, the audience was told that once the Opera started initially, and that after intermissions no one would be permitted to go to their seat until the next break. However, many people were permitted to come in late, were loudly talking about needing to find their seats, and disrupted those who were already seated watching the performance. Furthermore, a number of people were consistently going to the bar so were late for that reason. Often they were less than graceful returning to their seats. There was also a woman who was obviously inebriated, and seemed to be verbally aggressive to a seated audience member as she went back to her seat during one intermission. The audience also had numerous people loudly chatting which was extremely rude to the rest of the audience, and to the performers. However, in spite of the 20% of the audience whom showed poor manners, the Opera was thoroughly enjoyable, and I hope that El Paso Opera will do more productions in a year. I hope though in future performances that there will be enough staff who are able to prevent rude interruptions during the performance so the Opera experience will be without their added dramatic entrances.

    Underwhelming

by NA on 8/30/22Abraham Chavez Theatre - El Paso

It was not worth the time or money for this event. It was more of a musical play, not at all an opera. My impression is that it borrowed from a movie, down to the annoying characters that were trying too hard. It was not the quality you would expect for paying such a price to see. I will not be attending further events for this organization that was responsible for this production. The lead actors did well in terms of singing. No credit given to the guest performers at all at the end.

    Not the greatest

by No Name on 8/30/22Abraham Chavez Theatre - El Paso

Show was not the greatest, highly disappointing, left after Act 1. Was a somewhat vulgar. Doors remained opened for late comers which made it very disruptive, distracting and blinding. Venue is very small, restroom lines were ridiculously long.

The mariachi was great. The performers were awesome. Great story. At several points in the story, many of the attendees were crying. Would definitely recommend.

    More than expected

by Monica on 4/8/19Abraham Chavez Theatre - El Paso

Wasnt sure what to expect out of a mariachi opera. But it was absolutely so well worth it. The story was amazing. It touched on so many levels. Love. Family. Hope. Loss. Thank you for bringing this to El Paso!!!
