About

El Monstero – a Tribute To Pink Floyd in Concert

Many tribute bands are dedicated to the music and visuals of Pink Floyd, but few are as ambitious as El Monstero – a Tribute to Pink Floyd. Based in St. Louis, the troupe pairs an arena-caliber light and video show with meticulous attention to detail: They once borrowed the actual inflatable pig owned by Pink Floyd, and have also been known to hire a helicopter to fly over the crowd to provide the proper sound effects for the music. Their onstage presence certainly earns them the tag "The Definitive U.S. Pink Floyd Tribute Experience," as the band's arresting musicianship captures the evocative emotional arcs of the David Gilmour and Roger Waters era of Pink Floyd.

Near the end of the year, the group books an annual run of shows at popular indoor St. Louis venue the Pageant, a 2,300-capacity space that's adjacent to the Delmar Loop. They also regularly do out-of-town gigs in Springfield and Kansas City, and they've collaborated live with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra on bigger concerts that add majestic flourishes to Pink Floyd's music. In recent years, El Monstero has also branched out for summer shows at the St. Louis–area outdoor venue the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre.

El Monstero – a Tribute To Pink Floyd Background

It's tough to beat the pedigree of the musicians in El Monstero. The group was founded by members of the St. Louis rock band Stir, who decided to do a covers show around Thanksgiving 1999 that drew 900 people. From there, El Monstero continued to play gigs around the holidays, even as their personnel evolved: Stir bassist Kevin Gagnepain stayed aboard and was joined by members of nationally signed bands the Urge (drummer John Pessoni, keyboardist Bill Reiter) and Kingofthehill (vocalist/guitarist Jimmy Griffin) — all of whom had continued to hone their craft in other St. Louis bands — as well as a group of talented local instrumentalists, including vocalist/guitarist Mark Thomas Quinn, and backing singers. Together, El Monstero is a testament to the power of Pink Floyd, and to the power of community.

If you haven't experienced ElMo, your life is incomplete.

    by KK on 1/4/24

All the very best local talent in guitar, vocals, sax, visuals, performance (ie ribbon dancers, theatrics, money falling from the sky, sax players running thru the crowd, omg - it doesn't stop). Absolutely mind-blowing - every night is unique. Transcends age - my 16 y/o son goes every year & is a superfan along side folks in their late 60s - he is mesmerized and inspired by Bryan, Jimmy, Mark, Kevin, John, guest musicians....and on and on. Best way to support the band is to buy the merch. Best experience for your dollar of the entire year. Go once - you will become an addict/groupie - promise.

    Which One’s Pink

by Ticketmeister on 1/3/24The Pageant - St Louis

They played 7 nights at the Pageant. Each show sold out and unique as different people played on Money, Comfortably Numb and Have a Cigar. And song selection off the Animals album rotated each night. 🐷 🐑 🐕 Each show was 3 hours plus. And they had the crowd singing on Wish You Were Here and others. The production value is excellent with dancers, aerialists and lighting. If you’ve never seen this show in St Louis, I recommend it highly. And as close to actual Pink Floyd as you will ever. This is the quintessential band to see. And 25 years strong now. ⚒️🐷⚒️ and each year is better than the previous one. We call it riding the gravy train.

    Never gets old

by Big Dadddy! on 1/3/24The Pageant - St Louis

I’ve seen this show 30+ times over the years and this show was better than ever. The music is always great but the light show this year was spectacular! Sadly I left the mushrooms at home, that would have made the performance even better! I won’t make that mistake next year.

    Blast to the past

by AJ on 1/2/24The Pageant - St Louis

First time seeing El Monstero and it will not be the last. This band put it out all week here in St. Louis. 7 sold out shows. Great to see all the songs live again. Played all the great songs from different Pink Floyd albums. No doubt I will see them again in 2024.

    Great Rock Show

by Johnny2 on 1/2/24The Pageant - St Louis

El Monstero put on a hot rock show , on a Thursday night even, and if I closed my eyes it would be like having the real thing there. But I didn't close my eyes because of the vivid and powerful visual show that goes along with the experience ! The Pageant was an awesome venue and the staff was extremely attentive to my extra needs being in a wheelchair! If one has never seen El Monstero , put it on this years list of things you have GOT to SEE! Truly a rock and roll event!!!!!!

Best tribute band! The whole experience for all of my senses was incredible. The band sounds amazing, they love what they are doing. The performance is visually beautiful. The added performers on the stage are amazingly talented. Just the most fantastic show every single time we go!

    BEST CONCERT EVER!

by Peggy on 1/2/24The Pageant - St Louis

I bought my son and my dad tickets for a Christmas present and this show did not disappoint. The venue was perfect and I don’t think there was a bad seat in the house. I had just bought general admission for the standing room only and we were able to find seats by the bar. I paid for the VIP sound check and my son was in cloud 9! He got to meet the band members and get their autographs. All the members were incredibly nice, even after the show, he was able to meet the saxophone player and get his picture with him! My son plays guitar, electric bass and upright, and the music was unbelievable! My dad is now a life time fan of El Minstero and is already planning to go see them next year!

    Must See Tribute Show

by SMB on 1/1/24The Pageant - St Louis

Never considered myself a "Tribute Band/Show"kind of person but it has been some 15 years ago when I first saw them perform. If you are even mildly into Pink Floyd this is a must see show. They absolutely crush it. Musical performance is near perfection and the pageantry/stage show is spot on. The Pageant is both intimate but also performative. 15 Years ago I thought I would give it a try, I haven't missed a holiday show since, you won't regret going! You need to see them if you enjoy Floyd music and be prepared for a 3 hour show.
