ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN IN CONCERT:

Formed in the late-'70s wake of punk's first wave, Echo & the Bunnymen forged a unique fusion of post-punk, new wave, and neo-psychedelia that established them as pioneers of a new direction in British rock. Today the band's moody, sophisticated sound is as compelling as ever, and their spellbinding live shows are the perfect place to experience it in the flesh. Whether brooding frontman Ian McCulloch is belting out classics from seminal 1984 album Ocean Rain or performing new material from 2014's Meteorites, Echo & the Bunnymen never fail to mesmerize with muscular musicianship and intense performances on their unforgettable tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Echo & the Bunnymen formed in Liverpool in 1978, taking their name from a list of nonsensical monikers suggested by a friend. The band made their debut in 1979 with "The Pictures on My Wall", released on the now-legendary Mute Records imprint. Their 1980 album debut Crocodiles was a critical and commercial success, cracking the UK Top 20 and setting the stage for the success of sophomore album Heaven Up Here, which reached the Top 10 in 1981. Their chart run continued in 1983 with third album Porcupine, the vessel for hit singles "The Back of Love" and "The Cutter" and predecessor to the band's landmark 1984 album Ocean Rain, widely considered by critics as the pinnacle of their '80s output. After taking a hiatus between 1993-1996 the band reformed with a vengeance, scoring another Top 10 hit with "Nothing Lasts Forever" and delivering a powerful series of performances on tour. With their 12th studio album Meteorites hitting shelves in 2104, Echo & the Bunnymen have fans eagerly awaiting their next live shows. Previously, Echo & the Bunnymen has sold out venues to capacity, like The Fillmore (Minneapolis) and Fox Theater (Oakland).

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Amazing show. Ian's voice has not changed a bit. The band sounds the same as the first time I heard them. Bravo!"

"The Bunnymen did amazing renditions of their albums. The improvisation on Crocodiles brought back many great live memories of Bunnymen past shows."

"It was an amazing show. The band sounded incredible and Ian was very much a dynamic presence. Two complete albums were played, along with encores, so it was definitely a show to remember."

    Magical

    by M. M. on 6/1/23

I saw the Bunnymen all 3 nights for the recent US shows (Mountain Winery, Cruel World and Gila River Resorts). They were all amazing! Ian sounded fantastic and I appreciate his humor and story telling with the crowds. Will was spot on and it's always great to watch his creativity come through. The entire band all seemed excited to be playing. So looking forward to any future dates in the US and I hope they are soon!

    Awesome Show!

by Chris on 5/30/23Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - Chandler

I brought a friend who only went because I wanted to go, She said it was probably the best show she's ever been to. It's in the tops for me too. They played so many hits and songs that we knew, I think the newest song was from 2001. I'm down for new music from my favorite bands, but it made it extra special to just hear the ones we already knew and loved. The whole band was on point with the iconic parts that we were expecting. I'll see them every time they are in town.

    Magical band

by Kat on 5/24/23Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - Chandler

Sound quality was pretty good compared to Cruel World festival destroying "The Damned" show last year. These band members are getting up there in age and having their voices drowned out by hyped up volume ruins the entire experience. This show, "Echo and Bunnyman" was pretty near perfect with sound and levels. THANK you for that!!! I could hear his BEAUTIFUL voice clearly as well as the sounds of each instrument and that is IMPORTANT at a venue no matter the band!!!

    Amazing Performance

by CL CL on 5/24/23Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - Chandler

Prior reviews for The Bunnymen that we read from last years tour made us think may not be a great show— However- Ian McCulloch's vocals were PERFECTION and was a great set list. We are happy to have experienced their performance.

    Worst concert ever!

by srscottsdale on 5/24/23Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - Chandler

They started 25 min late and played did not even an hour. Ian was high on something. No one could understand what he was saying and he was off key. They did one song for the encore. At one point he seemed to have forgotten the words. He was twirling a towel and wanted to throw it out the crowd. He tried to kick it instead and almost fell over. He ran off the stage as soon as the song was over.

Loved this band, but time catches us all

by Andrew on 5/24/23Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - Chandler

Loved the set list. I wish they would have played a song or two from CandleLand (Ian’s solo work) which is absolutely beautiful, but otherwise they left nothing out. Ian’s voice is definitely fading; in contrast to the Robert Smith and the Cure (which I saw a week earlier) he’s lost range and the ability to sustain a show. That said, the band was musically sold, with Will’s guitar playing as solid and beautiful as you would want (Killing Moon was excellent). I’d definitely see them again.

    Obnoxious bar crowd

by Linda529 on 5/24/23Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - Chandler

Ian's voice sounded great and overall I enjoyed the concert. However, my seats were back by the bar where people were load and obnoxious. I am not sure I would choose to see any groups at this venue again but for sure I would get different seats.

    Wrap it up

by Jake on 5/24/23Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Wild Horse Pass - Chandler

It's really shocking how bad Ian sounds. Can't hit certain notes, mumbles, flat out doesn't sing for some of it, yelling at people off and on stage, incoherent babbling between songs ... don't waste your time.
