EARPHUNK IN CONCERT:

If you’ve ever wondered what it would sound like to combine the finger-licking grooves of funk with the sonic ambition of prog, New Orleans-based quintet Earphunk has your answer – and it rocks. Hard. The group’s extended “prog-funk” jams put musicianship first and foremost, and their live shows are a veritable master class in virtuosity as they push their abilities to the limits. Frontman and guitarist Mark Hempe leads the way with epic riffs that climb towards the stratosphere, and the rest of the band keeps pace with an ever-rising brew of bass, drums, keys, and horns. To say Earphunk is tight would be an understatement – this is a finely tuned unit that manages to stay dynamic and funky while blowing minds with their razor-sharp musicianship and lockstep grooves. 

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Earphunk formed in New Orleans in the early ‘10s, drawing inspiration from the city’s history of combining diverse musical traditions to arrive at their unique prog-funk sound. From the very beginning they were interested in the chemistry and unpredictability of live performance, and in 2011 they captured the essence of their electrifying shows on their debut album Comin’ Up. After touring the country they followed up in 2013 with two albums – the studio release No Nine to Five and the live album Live at Tipitina’s. Their jam-heavy performances continued to be a big draw for fans, and soon they were selling out larger venues. With more than 200 shows and several trips across the US under their belt, Earphunk returned to the studio in 2014 to begin work on their third album. The result was 2015’s Sweet Nasty, a groove-heavy slice of progressive funk that has fans eager to rock out with the band at their upcoming performances.
