    A briliant performance

by max2 on 8/10/14Chan Centre for the Performing Arts - Vancouver

Last Thursday's rendering of this rarely-performed early oratorio from Handel's "Italian period" was brilliant. The singers were all on top form; Reginald Mobley's tender and smooth yet powerful counter-tenor was especially striking. The orchestral playing was always authoritative and crisp, and the orchestra and vocalists were in perfect balance. All in all, this was a memorable evening. I hope EMV records this work on CD.

The most beautiful voices - Haendel would be proud

by bathseheba on 8/10/14Chan Centre for the Performing Arts - Vancouver

Il Trionfo del Tempo was beautifully done - the soloists and the orchestra were magnificent. The alto especially - such a beautiful voice. Definitely worth it.

    Fantastic Exodus

by Anonymous on 8/10/13Chan Centre for the Performing Arts - Vancouver

This was a spectacular event that far exceeded my expectations. This oratorio music by Handel is not sufficiently well known to get the recognition it deserves. It is truly one of his greatest works. The orchestra, chorus, vocal soloists, conductor and venue at the Chan Centre in Vancouver were all overwhelmingly good. Such surprises are rare and welcome.

    Stile Antico were simply sublime.

by max2 on 4/14/13Chan Centre for the Performing Arts - Vancouver

This British ensemble of 12 young singers is one of the leading exponents of polyphonic vocal music, with emphasis on the Renaissance and early Baroque. At this concert, they presented works for the Holy Week and Easter season from the Tudor, Spanish and Flemish repertoire as well as a modern setting of "Woefully Arrayed". I found the performance powerful and yet subtle and moving. Their intonation was perfect, and their enunciation clear. Given that they perform without a conductor, their precision is astonishing. I certainly look forward to their next concert.

    The Faerie Queene was charming!!

by cellomellow on 8/18/09Chan Centre for the Performing Arts - Vancouver

I did not expect the humour and the absolutely brilliant performances by the singers. I knew the performance would be professional and fine, but this production of the Fairie Queene was a hoot!! I laughed, I smiled, I loved every minute of it. It was also wonderful music, beautifully performed. One of the 10 best concerts of my entire (long) life!! And I mean it.

    Sublime performance!

by max2 on 8/7/09Chan Centre for the Performing Arts - Vancouver

Purcell's "The Faerie Queene" is rarely performed. It is a real treat and a privilege to hear a performance of this quality.
