    Eek

by NotaWhofan on 10/30/13Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

I love the Greek theater, wonderful ambience and we lucked out weather-wise. Eek at the Greek is definitely for families with small children. It seems geared toward the area schools. The symphony sounded great, the hanging chandeliers set the stage, and it was fun to see the musicians in costumes. I loved all the pieces selected and the readings by Stacy Keach and Melissa Chalsma. I did expect lots of screaming babies and restless toddlers, which is fine, but the adults seemed to think the music was a backdrop for conversing. I'm glad the kids get exposure to classical music but wish the adults would respect the performance more.

    Another great show

by Godd on 10/30/13Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

This was third year of the performance and my third year attending. As word spreads on this event there are more and more kids, which is a good thing but also a bad thing as they were pretty loud for the first song or two. It is a great family event, although I don't have kids. Trying to mix it up this year they had three new pieces, I was only a fan of one of the three, that being Ritual Fire Dance, but I wasn't a huge fan of the story (although my friend was) and I don't know the music of Wicked to appreciate it. Also in the spirit of mixing it up on sorcerer's apprentice they started with verses by Goethe which were a nice addition. Intermission was, again, a costume contest, and while the host (some reporter from ABC) was funny, it was the weakest of the contests thus far. The second half opened with the Funeral March of the Marionette with them bringing in kids to conduct. The start, again this year, was Stacy Keach reading Edgar Alan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart." This either ties or surpasses the first year's reading. They closed again with The Devil's Dance which was my favorite song of the night. I did wish they played more of the classics - Danse Macabre, Toccata & Fugue, or Night on Bald Mountain, but nevertheless it was a great show.

Eek! At the Greek, Symphony in the Glen

by MissyBeeBowie on 10/30/13Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

A family friendly event with an edge thanks to an impressively scary reading of "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Stacy Keach over original music by conductor Arthur Rubinstein. The all ages costume competition added some fun and originality. A really great musical selection in a majestic setting elevated a chilly night.

    wonderful performance, terrible audience

by jst4phun on 10/30/13Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

The performance was wonderful. We really tried to enjoy it. However, the event appears to bring out a lot of families with very young children. It seemed at least a third of the audience had children aged 3 and younger that clearly do not have the attention span to listen to the performance. That would be fine if they just tried it out to see how the children did with it but then removed them if they were being completely disruptive but that was not the case. I wouldn't expect children to sit completely quietly and still. That is not what I mean. These parents let their children scream at the top of their voices and run around constantly during the performances. This happened non-stop throughout the entire concert. Yes, their kids looked adorable in their costumes but surely they can find some other venue to show them off rather than this one. They paid no attention to the music and kept literally everyone else from enjoying it. None of the parents around us made ANY attempt to get the children to lower their voices or to watch the concert. Unfortunately, we won't be back because I hold out no hope that these selfish parents who don't know how to teach their children appropriate behavior or know when to leave will somehow realize how inconsiderate they are. As a side note, yes, I have children myself. I taught mine how to behave at public performances. When my children were that young we brought them to public performances and taught them they had to whisper and tried to teach them to pay attention. If they couldn't behave we would leave. I would have been mortified by the behavior that was on display if it had been my children.

    Eek at teh Greek

by Alyssa3 on 10/30/13Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

We loved it!. It was our first time. My kids like going to plays, but have never been to a symphony. We will be going again next year. I took a 8 & 10 year old. They really enjoyed it. I was afraid they might get bored, but with the reading they were hooked.

I was disappointed in the event . I thought there would be more trick or treating . It was crowded with hardly any thing to do. I think it was overpriced for what they offered. At least the parking was only 5 bucks . The decorations were nicely done.

    Great halloween tradition

by Godd on 11/1/12Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

It wasn't as good as last year and for some reason there were fewer people, but it was fun nevertheless. The mix was a little off for the first song or perhaps I was just getting used to it, but it adjusted. The tale-tell heart wasn't nearly as good as it was the year before, and the kids choir was a little much, although they had two good songs for them, including one from the Harry Potter series. They added another spoken word piece this year that both me and my girlfriend really liked. I also really liked the closing John Williams piece and the mix (if you can call it that) of Bach's toccata & Fugue and Grieg's Hall of the mountain king. What was also nice was that it was a really clear night and afterwards we went up to the observatory.

I loved how mostly everyone, adults and children, were in costumes. The decor was great and fun. The Porsche 911 was a nice touch. Although there were children around the full bar was at a distinct area. Pinks hot dogs and nachos were yummy however they need to supply jalapenos or some type of chilies. The entertainment was great. The orchestra and the readings very entertaining. I will have a suggestion is to maybe schedule it either on a friday night or saturday night. I noticed some people left after intermission.

    Amazing!!!

by asnoopyb516 on 10/30/12Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

This has quickly become a family tradition. We went last year and again this year. Maestro Rubenstein was funny and fabulous. The music program was awesome, and both Anne Marie Johnson and Robert Hayes gave incredible readings. I would highly recommend going to next year's event!

    Eek and Eek Again!

by ldcoultre on 10/30/12Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Love this event! Close, affordable, family-friendly. A lot of fun and a lot of wonderful music we don't get to hear anywhere else. A clever theme enthusiastically rendered.... so L.A. to be outside on a crisp fall night under a full moon, enjoying it all! Thank you again to all the sponsors, the artists, and the participants for a lovely evening!
