About

Raised on the Bakersfield honky tonk of Buck Owens and traditional country like Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, Dwight Yoakam has created more than a dozen studio albums of his own self-described hillbilly music over nearly four decades. On his 2012 collection, “3 Pears,” the Kentucky-born performer reached out to Kid Rock and Ashley Monroe of Pistol Annies for co-writing help on a couple songs, while Beck co-produced the successful set.

Ticket buyers know a slew of Yoakam singles when they head to his concerts — from the chart-topping “Guitars Cadillacs” from the similarly-titled 1986 debut and “I Sang Dixie” off of 1988’s “Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room” to 1993’s “A Thousand Miles from Nowhere.” And when he’s not on the tour bus canvassing the nation, the singer/songwriter may be on a movie set. His acting credits include critically acclaimed roles as an abusive boyfriend in “Sling Blade” and a psychopath killer in “Panic Room.”

    Bucket list

by Old guy on 4/9/24Choctaw Grand Theater - Durant

Great concert. Dwight hasn’t lost his voice range and certainly not his breathing. He did a fantastic job on all the songs. He told a couple of stories that were funny. For anyone that appreciates musical talent, his band is unbelievable. One member plays keyboard, fiddle, steel guitar, and tambourine. Lead guitarist also plays the mandolin. Great show and well worth the money.

    Best concert ever

by Toni on 4/9/24Choctaw Grand Theater - Durant

This concert was absolutely amazing. To hear the instruments of real country music and the sounds coming through in person wasn’t ever forget. I love the way he danced on stage and you could really tell they were all getting into the music. Dwight was dressed in his sequin jacket, and his band also had bling on theirs, when he started playing, he kept playing song after song after song. He did a great performance. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to see him.

    Legendary Yoakum

by Athens In 90 on 4/9/24Choctaw Grand Theater - Durant

When we heard Dwight was going to hit the stage we were on it to get our tickets! A group of us couldn’t be more please with his nonstop performance playing his timeless hits and covers. Dwight hasn’t changed a bit, kept the signature tight jeans and white boots along with, of course his cowboy hat. His band was tight and always appreciate an artist who introduces and complements his band members. Brought back a lot toe tapping memories. Good times!

Dwight put on an amazing show 🤠

by Laura on 4/9/24Topeka Performing Arts Center - Topeka

Dwight was amazing, venue was nice and intimate, but I will say some concert goers need to reevaluate what going to a concert is. Some people where reprimanded for standing up and dancing due to others not staff. If you go to a concert and pay money you should be allowed to dance. You pay to listen to the artist you enjoy and should be able to dance if you want to. If you don't want to enjoy yourself and have fun or dance stay home and don't ruin others trying to have fun. This is America and we don't live in Footloose.

    Unbelievable concert!

by KathyT on 4/8/24Choctaw Grand Theater - Durant

I have been waiting years to see Dwight in concert and he did not disappoint! He not only performed hit after hit, but he kept us entertained with his humor. It was obvious he really appreciates his fans. Halfway through the two hour show he said "now the band is warmed up so here we go"and it was amazing. Off they went to perform more hits which everyone knows are plentiful. Excellent band and evening!

    Great Venue

by Duke on 4/8/24Choctaw Grand Theater - Durant

Choctaw is a great venue. Great seating , great (free) parking, and it doesn't take an hour to get on the road when the show is over.. Dwight Yoakam really put on a great show. Seemed like it went on until he got all his hits sung. Good banter with the audience, would appear that he sincerely appreciates his fans.

    Dwight did not disappoint!!

by Sue on 4/8/24Topeka Performing Arts Center - Topeka

The cover band was not good. We could not understand any words he said. The mix of instruments and microphones wasn’t good AT ALL. We found out later that they were filling time until Yoakam could arrive. But, a lot of people left and it was obvious the songs they sang were ALL alike. We were hoping we were not waiting in vain. After 45 minutes of break, the house lights flickered, and Dwight Yoakam appeared, was apologetic, played NONSTOP for the next hour and 45 minutes. So good, we called him back for an encore that brought down the house!! We will go see him again, if possible.
