About

Dweezil Zappa was born on September 5, 1969, in Los Angeles, the son of the iconic musician Frank Zappa. Over the past three decades, Dweezil has carved out an eclectic and illustrious career that spans music, television, film, and entrepreneurship.

A Grammy-winning guitarist, Dweezil has left an indelible mark on the music industry with over 2000 concerts performed worldwide. Known for his masterful performances and deep connection to his father's music, he's returning to concert stages in 2024 for the first time since the 2020 Hot Ratz Live! Tour, continuing to guide fans through the thrilling and sophisticated world of his father's music.

His virtuosity on the guitar is matched only by his prolific compositional skills, which have generated numerous original works spanning multiple albums including "Confessions of Deprived Youth" (1991) and "Via Zammata" (2015). Notably, his compositions have even been performed by a 100-piece orchestra in Holland, showcasing his versatility and command of orchestral arrangements. His music effortlessly traverses genres, seamlessly weaving together elements of rock, fusion, and experimental sounds, all while maintaining a signature style that is unmistakably his own. In addition to his solo work, Dweezil has collaborated with an impressively varied roster of artists, including Edward Van Halen, Deep Purple, Lisa Loeb, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Steve Vai, among others.

In 2020, Dweezil further solidified his reputation as a pioneer in the industry by completing construction on "Hikari," a state-of-the-art multimedia studio. As a sought-after audio mix engineer, he showcased his expertise by crafting the stereo and Atmos mixes for the 50th anniversary re-release of Deep Purple's legendary album "Machine Head" in 2024, cementing his status as a unique voice in sound engineering.

Beyond his artistic pursuits, Dweezil is deeply passionate about music education. He frequently shares his knowledge and expertise by teaching guitar, both through his own music camp, "Dweezilla," and online lessons. His collaborative spirit has led him to work with a diverse array of musicians all while honoring the legacy of his father, Frank Zappa.

In all his endeavors, Dweezil remains committed to upholding integrity and pushing the boundaries of technology and creativity. As he continues to innovate and inspire, Dweezil Zappa stands as a true luminary in the world of music and beyond.

    AMAZING!

    by Keli on 9/17/22

Having seen Dweezil 8 times I can say he is nothing less than amazing. He dedicated the *Roxy and Elsewhere* show in Santa Fe to my husband, who was supposed to be there. We presented him with a scroll about Peter and how he was supposed to be there during sound check. We always get the sound check tickets. What a show... what SHOWS. Last show we saw him at was in February of 2000 at the Kimo in Albuquerque (Once upon a time, It was in Albuquerque, New Mexico, There were these girls that worked at the college...) and it was the Hot Rats tour. Just amazing in every single way. That was RIGHT when the pandemic was kicking in. Haven't seen him since. He usually comes around every 1.5 - 2 years. It's like a family reunion, I have friends fly in for it every time so we can all go together. My children were raised on Zappa and have attended every show with me. He totally recognizes us every time as we sit front and center most times and we always see him after the show as he meets every last fan. Hope he's still touring, couldn't find anything. A MUST for any Zappa fan. He does a FINE job!

    Great show, room for improvement.

by F. on 3/14/20Hart Theatre at the Egg - Albany

Dweezil and his band were absolute amazing, he does a fantastic job of emulating Franks music and the performance had great song variety and was overall very entertaining. However I was extremely bummed that everyone sat during the whole performance, we still have no idea if that was enforced by the venue or Dweezil or just a hardcore lame push from other attendees. I wish at the beginning he would have announced if we could stand, my boyfriend and I ended up hanging out in the far back on the rail so we could groove and move like you normally would at a rock show. Who ever let this happen really should reconsider for the future because it did effect our experience and I found it bizarre considering the genre of music.

    Fantastic

    by R. B. on 3/10/20The Paramount - Huntington

The show was fantastic. Very little could add to that. Musicianship, staging, the whole thing was quality. Dweezil is the true continuation of Frank Zappa's legacy while forging his own path musically.

    The music was excellent

Dweezil and the band were ON at the Paramount.I have seen his band a number of times and this was an excellent show. Minor complaint about the seats - too small and tight and too many people getting up during the show to get drinks and go to the bathroom. That's why I get an aisle seat. Will see him again.

    Awesome dhow

by LT on 3/7/20Lincoln Theatre - Columbus

Dweezil and his band of six very talented musicians played a fantastic show. At times he channeled his dad and at other times he really shined in his own right. Really a show not to miss if youā€™re Zappa fan
