About

Founded in 1957, The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra (DSO) is a professional ensemble serving the residents of Dubuque, Iowa and the surrounding tri-state area. Each year the symphony performs a repertoire of classics, pops, chamber, and opera concerts. The DSO also presents free concerts to over 3,500 students and DSO musicians serve as musical ambassadors in local 4th grade classrooms. The Dubuque Youth Ensembles are a dynamic portion of the DSO’s programs. Over 70 students participate in the Dubuque Youth String Ensemble, Philharmonia, or Dubuque Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Wonderful way to start the holiday season!

by Chris on 12/5/23Five Flags Center - Dubuque

I really enjoyed this performance and so did my 11 year old son. I wish there was an option to have a meet and greet with the musicians before the show. My son would have loved to see all their instruments and ask them questions as he plays piano and violin. Maybe this can be offered as an add on ticket like a VIP ticket at other concerts. Great performance!

    Heart warming performance

by Toshi on 11/14/23Five Flags Center - Dubuque

I was glad to have the program start off with “The Star Spangled Banner”. Everyone stood up and many sang along with the Corale. Maestro Intriligator introduced each number and the orchestra was in fine form. A great evening.

Great fun for the whole family

by PianoMom on 12/7/21Five Flags Center - Dubuque

My daughters and I really enjoyed this family holiday concert. We all got jingle bells to ring during the performance which was a lot of fun. The symphony sounded wonderful as did the children's choir. The only part that went south was the vocalist who was not up to standard. Other than that, the concert was great!

    A bit disappointing this year!

by SLP64 on 12/7/21Five Flags Center - Dubuque

Was so looking forward to a traditional show again...was disappointed a bit that Mistro Intriligator wasnt there but his replacement was wonderful!!! The program wasnt as joyful as we had hoped and we thought the singer was just ok....woshed she would have sang more traditional music....

Symphony good but solo "vocalist" not

by Sam on 12/7/21Five Flags Center - Dubuque

Instrumentals were very good. But it feltuncomfortable, confusing and frankly insulting that someone who was tone deaf was selected to be passed off as solo vocalist. The performances without her were enjoyable but I don't know how the orchestra and choir could tolerate rehearsals with her. The audience only had to sit through it one evening.

    Grace Clifford was AWESOME!!!

by ljh on 11/5/19Five Flags Center - Dubuque

I love Mendelssohn's violin concerto and Grace Clifford is one of the best young violinists I've heard and it was the best piece the orchestra did Saturday night. However, I think Mozart's first symphony is very rarely played for a reason - that it sounds like a symphony written by an eight year-old. I love the Surprise Symphony, but it was missing something. The music director certainly doesn't need advice from me, but if I were in charge, I would get Grace Clifford to commit to appearing with the orchestra every year as long as you can afford her.

    Kudos to Dubuque symphony orchestra

by Opera on 4/18/19Five Flags Center - Dubuque

I was blown away that they did so much on a small budget. The singing was excellent and Sarah Hartman's dream approach made a difficult plot line make sense. Loved the billboards! I really enjoyed the show and wished they could have done more performances.

    Loved Mozart

by Bernadette on 4/17/19Five Flags Center - Dubuque

Since this is the first Magic Flute I’ve seen, I can’t compare it to any other, but it was super. I loved the staging and the orchestra being in the back of the action. I really liked Megan’s interpretation of the Queen. I sat next to a really interesting and nice lady. The whole experience was great. B
